Reports and videos from Ukraine have documented cases of men being forcibly detained by military recruitment personnel, a practice widely referred to as “busification.” Ukrainian officials have acknowledged problems with recruitment methods and rights violations.
However, claims that women, children, elderly people and people with disabilities are being routinely sent to the front lines are not supported by Ukraine’s current mobilization rules. Men aged 25–60 who meet eligibility requirements can be mobilized, while women are not subject to compulsory mobilization and may serve voluntarily.
