00:00¿Cómo se va, everyone? Welcome back to Mental Health Mondays.
00:03Today we are going to be talking about how environment can impact your mental health,
00:08your state of mind, and just your overall well-being.
00:12So I appreciate y'all for tuning in and got a lot of cool things to talk about today.
00:16Welcome back.
00:18Yeah, I think what I'm really going to be digging into today is
00:23the fact that I was planning on coming, you know, kind of stepping out of L.A.,
00:29which is the typical, you know, it's the scheduled programming for me.
00:34And we come every summer.
00:36We get a nice vacation in, luckily.
00:39Lucky enough to get to step away from regular life every once in a while.
00:44And my intention was when coming out here, I was like, you know what,
00:49I'm not going to think about work.
00:51Work, and work being anything that I'm really, not even work, I guess wouldn't be the right word,
01:00but any inclination.
01:01I'm going to kind of step away from that and purely focus on myself.
01:05You know, environment impacts mental state,
01:08and that's something that I've really been interested by, you know,
01:13having such a profound experience with how that changes, just my mindset.
01:21You know, coming up here, something that maybe would have not set me back,
01:27but taken my mental state from a really positive one to a not-so-positive one,
01:33doesn't affect me in, not that it doesn't affect me at all, but in the same way.
01:39Whether that be the fact that I have more outlets, you know,
01:41I can go for a swim on the lake, I can go for a little jet ski ride,
01:46I can, you know, I'm blessed to have a sauna and a cold plunge at my house in LA.
01:51So I do that, and that always works.
01:53It always helps.
01:54I've been doing that here.
01:57But, yeah, I just think it's super interesting because,
02:00especially in the U.S., and when I say in the U.S.,
02:03it's because I've only really lived in the U.S.,
02:06I find that when we're having, and when I say we,
02:10I'm talking about people who grew up in the U.S.,
02:13when we have a problem, typically, whether that be with your mind or your body,
02:19you're going to go to a doctor.
02:20And that doctor is going to, most of the time,
02:23you don't leave the doctor with, like, a new exercise or a new routine.
02:26You leave with a prescription to something.
02:28And I'm not saying that that's bad.
02:32In my opinion, I don't think that that should be the first line of defense.
02:37I think that if you're feeling off,
02:41if I was someone advising someone else on their mental or physical health,
02:48I would probably start with, well, what's your diet?
02:51And if the diet's good, then great.
02:54And if it's not, then let's tweak some things.
02:56And let's tweak those things and see if anything changes.
02:58My second question would be, what is your physical activity like?
03:02How many steps do you get in in a day?
03:04Like, do you do cardio?
03:07Do you lift weights?
03:08Those are two completely different things.
03:10I've really only done, not true, but since high school,
03:15I've really only done weights, lifting, you know, like body weight workouts,
03:21a lot of push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, that kind of thing.
03:24And don't get me wrong, I get tons of endorphins from that.
03:26If I start my morning off like that, my day is going to be better.
03:29I feel stronger.
03:30If you feel good, you look good.
03:33If you look good, you feel good.
03:35That is a real thing for me, at least.
03:38I mean, it's something so simple, too.
03:40It's like, you could take a vitamin D supplement,
03:46which I actually need to start doing.
03:48I was just skipping one because my vitamin D levels are low.
03:52And I'm also going to start going out in the sun more,
03:54which I clearly started doing.
03:56As you can see, I got like a fifth-degree burn on my face,
03:59but it's all good.
04:00Got aloe vera.
04:03Yeah, I mean, I think if your body is functioning right,
04:07and it's so crazy that something, I just didn't understand this fully,
04:12but if your body is functioning right,
04:14the things you put in it are going to be processed better.
04:17Your body is going to react to them better.
04:19So if you take vitamin C every day because you don't eat oranges,
04:26it's better than having no vitamin C in your body.
04:29If you do both, with moderation, as it is for everything,
04:35you're going to have a better reaction.
04:36So it's like for me, you know, people have always said,
04:39yo, just first thing in the morning,
04:40because I'm always like, oh, I have such bad energy in the morning.
04:43Like that's the hardest thing is getting my day started.
04:45I'm also not a big caffeine drinker.
04:47I mean, I've played tag with it a little bit,
04:49but I've never like even drank in a full coffee.
04:51I've only machos as far as it goes for me.
04:54And that's just because that's my personal preference.
04:56Everyone's different.
04:57I'm not saying caffeine is a bad thing.
04:58But for me, like, you know,
05:01I was talking to someone who I trust and advises me a lot in life.
05:05And she said, you know, I was like,
05:07man, I'm really struggling with energy in the morning.
05:11How do I get more energy?
05:12She said, right in the morning,
05:13I want you to go outside barefoot and just, you know, get some sun.
05:17Like look up at the sun with your eyes closed or eyes open,
05:19get some vitamin D in you, and then go for a run.
05:22She was like doing something that requires energy gives you energy.
05:27And it's such a, I don't know,
05:29to me that wasn't obvious for some reason,
05:31because I'm always looking, okay,
05:32if I'm going to put something in me that's going to give me energy,
05:35everything you need is outside of you.
05:37Of course, there's certain situations that that's not necessarily true.
05:41There's medical situations where you need help with certain things,
05:43but everything you need as a healthy human to continue surviving is in nature.
05:51And sometimes it's not a supplement or a plant or a, you know, whatever that may be.
05:57A lot of the times it's, um, it's movement.
06:00And, and that for me is, has kind of been my like summer's mantra so far.
06:05It's like, you want energy?
06:07Well, then give energy.
06:08You got to give energy to get energy.
06:10Um, yeah, so that's really been, been, uh, good learning experience for me.
06:16And hopefully it can be helpful for some of you guys.
06:18Thank you.
