Can a single car represent the innovation of an era? If we are talking about Formula 1 and the Ferrari 312B, the answer is a resounding yes. The Ferrari 312B was the vehicle that sparked an extraordinary decade for Scuderia Ferrari (1970–1980). It introduced the revolutionary flat-12 engine layout, which significantly lowered the car's center of gravity and redefined aerodynamics in Formula 1.

00:39:56But I don't think I'm going to do the Formula 1, but I don't think I'm going to do the
00:40:26Formula 1.
00:40:42Il motore là sbaglia. Mi sembra di sentire che sbaglia.
00:40:47Bisogna fare in modo che il medale lo tovra indietro.
00:40:52E rimane accelerata.
00:40:59Se no andiamo a tentativi...
00:41:08Adesso l'abbiamo rimesso come era prima.
00:41:10Rimane accelerata attorno dentro.
00:41:12Anche perché adesso l'abbiamo rimesso come era prima.
00:41:14Vado?
00:41:15Vai!
00:41:26Tutte e due no.
00:41:36Sì.
00:41:36Voi potete guardare qui.
00:41:41L'ha tenuta in uscita?
00:41:43No, c'ha un sottostesso costante.
00:41:46Sì.
00:42:08Perché volevo...
00:42:24E come facciamo?
00:43:17Ho capito.
00:43:17Però questa guaina...
00:43:18E c'è un sedile che...
00:43:18Guarda, ha schiacciato questo.
00:43:20Mauro.
00:43:21Questa guaina qua...
00:43:22Non la schiacci neanche con la pinza.
00:43:23Scusami sai.
00:43:24Prova ad aprire l'acceleratore se ci riesci.
00:43:27Sì si blocca.
00:43:28Ecco allora cosa mi dite?
00:43:30No ma...
00:43:30Devi metterlo sotto.
00:43:32Scusami sai.
00:43:33Ciao.
00:43:35Ciao.
00:43:44Già.
00:44:14The
00:44:15It was a big mistake.
00:44:17The problem with the carburetion, with the accelerator that didn't go,
00:44:22the engine that didn't work, made out a valve.
00:44:25The car doesn't move.
00:44:27The problem is that we don't have a lot of time.
00:44:32It's not easy to take the cams.
00:44:35He sends the engine.
00:44:37He has to do two cams and what do we do?
00:44:40We have to take it out of the car and send it to Novara.
00:44:43We don't have much time.
00:44:55The car doesn't move anymore.
00:45:21I want to take the wrench.
00:45:24You need more an engine to beießen the engine.
00:45:34I have to write because if you step up,
00:45:35You take on everything so 1995,
00:45:35It has to ride everything from home.
00:45:35Helez.
00:45:38You have to go.
00:45:38You are too late.
00:45:48I don't know what I'm talking about, but now you're telling me what I'm talking about.
00:45:55I don't know what I'm talking about.
00:45:58I've told you 10 times.
00:45:59I'm sorry if I wanted to tell you what I'm talking about.
00:46:02We're out of the phase of the best.
00:46:05We're out of the pistol.
00:46:06This is a little bit, but it's a little bit.
00:46:08I don't know what I'm talking about.
00:46:16I don't know what I'm talking about.
00:46:17I understand that I can't understand what happened.
00:46:20We don't talk about it anymore.
00:46:22So you have to mount the motorbike.

00:48:27Oh, my God.
00:48:411.17.
00:48:50Ve lo dici se hai del sovrastenzo?
00:48:53Eh?

01:08:46who works. For me, personally, I've lived it as a great privilege,
01:08:50because to bring the Ferrari to Monaco,
01:08:55to bring us a tour, is an extraordinary thing.
01:09:03For a stupidity, we missed what was our dream.
01:09:08It was hard for me that it was stupid,
01:09:12and that all things would happen in a way
01:09:15to bring us to the moment when we couldn't do anything more.
01:09:23You'd be delusy for the two years of work
01:09:27for this business here,
01:09:29and you'd say,
01:09:31I had two light bulb in a few tests,
01:09:39and we had 20 days to do it.
01:09:44One very nice thing is that,
01:09:45at the end of the race,
01:09:47in front of the pool,
01:09:49everyone had applauded.
01:09:51They had applauded the car.
01:09:52It gives you the idea
01:09:54that what you're doing is always the doubt
01:09:58if you're doing something important,
01:10:00if you do it only for me,
01:10:01for my egoism,
01:10:02or if someone can appreciate it,
01:10:04you say, maybe the road is the correct way,
01:10:05because this car can be a very beautiful thing
01:10:09for many people,
01:10:10who observe it,
01:10:11live it,
01:10:11feel it.
01:10:12What happened doesn't matter.
01:10:14The Ferrari has to express itself.
01:10:17It has to express itself on the road,
01:10:19and one thinks that a car
01:10:21can express itself
01:10:22when it's 100% of its possibilities.
01:10:28For us,
01:10:29to express itself
01:10:29means
01:10:30being able to take it to the maximum
01:10:32to make it live
01:10:33like it lived once again.
01:10:35So,
01:11:03we get on the road
01:11:10In the second half of the season, the Ferrari and the Lotus continue to fight until the last lap,
01:11:15making the pneumatic brakes on the asphalt, round-to-round.
01:11:18But even though it is able to conquer more times a post on the podium,
01:11:22it is Rint, who wins the other two games, one after the other.
01:11:25In Inglaterra, that Regazzoni can earn a full title the confidence of Enzo Ferrari and his post in scudery.
01:11:31A Hockenheim, when it is set up, Rint ends in the group, but only one lap to win the second
01:11:37position behind X.
01:11:39To cut the goal for the first and again Rint, who beats X for only seven tenths.
01:11:44In the central part of the season, there was the boom of Rint, who wins four runs, one after the
01:11:50other.
01:11:51There was no perception of being able to recover one like this in the central part of the world,
01:11:56and it seems to be closed, but the Ferrari didn't even have shown to be able to stay on that
01:12:02path.
01:12:03It is just before the grand prize in Italy that happens something incredible.
01:12:08In the beginning, this is the day of the Ferrari.
01:12:11Regazzoni dominates the first round, but then X, which surpassed it takes control.
01:12:18The temperature of the Italian engineer Mauro Forghieri is a explosive mix.
01:12:23The triumph of the Ferrari is all the way, with X and Regazzoni, which record the same identical time for
01:12:28the turn.
01:12:32Then it happened that the Ferrari made a great remodel with the first Ferrari Ferrari in Austria.
01:12:40Austria was always an Italian antipasto.
01:12:50The Grand Prix of Monza is like a roulette, because it is carried out in a high speed.
01:12:57In fact, I think that our pilots know what they should do,
01:13:01to try to help themselves in the future and to reach the last lap,
01:13:07the most close to the first position as possible.
01:13:13Joken Rint, the almost champion of the world.
01:13:16He passed a few points to four courses,
01:13:19to be sure champion of the world in 1970.
01:13:23Monza in 1970, I had 12 years.
01:13:27I had two favorite pilots.
01:13:29Rint and Jack Hicks.
01:13:31They were in battle in that year.
01:13:33The feeling of a little bit was that Rint had already closed their accounts,
01:13:37because he was in great shape.
01:13:39The image was of a pilot of an irraggiungible machine.
01:13:43There was a suspect that it was a dangerous machine.
01:13:47Monza is probably the most emotional racetrack in the world.
01:13:52The passion of Monza, the passion of the spectators.
01:13:56Nothing in the world is like it.
01:13:59And I've been very lucky.
01:14:00You know, I've been on the podium at Monza.
01:14:04I remember the day and I still get cold when I remember it staying on the podium.
01:14:09And the thousands and thousands of fans breaking down the fences and running to the podium.
01:14:16And I was there and I said, well, to win this Ferrari in Monza, the best thing that can happen.
01:14:21I came to Monza in 1970 for one day, for the day.
01:14:33I can't really describe how emotional that was, because Jochen Rint, who was about to become world champion,
01:14:39was killed in the final qualifying session on a Saturday afternoon at Monza.
01:14:45Jesus, you know, this can't have happened, surely, you know.
01:14:48But it had.
01:14:49But all, really, all anybody could talk about was, was Rint.
01:14:52It just seemed so cruel this could have happened.
01:14:55He was about to clinch the world championship.
01:14:57And I remember Jackie Stewart walking into Pitt Lane, entirely in black.
01:15:04That's the memory it sticks in, because he and Jochen Rint were very close friends.
01:15:08And then I also remember the cars were wheeled out of the paddock and wheeled onto the grid.
01:15:13Dead engines, mechanics pushing the cars, and the drivers walking alongside them.
01:15:18And I thought that was fantastic.
01:15:19It was sort of, you know, it was, it was real theater.
01:15:22And with all three Ferraris amongst the first six cars.
01:15:24It was Ix, Ragazzoni and Giunti.
01:15:26They were the three Ferrari drivers walking alongside the cars.
01:15:30It was just a fantastic moment.
01:15:31I've never, never forgotten that.
01:15:33And the race started.
01:15:45We were professional, but in a way, very amateur.
01:15:49Because there were no real rules.
01:15:51Everybody was able to do what he wanted, roughly, without any comment.
01:15:56We were there at the start of the Grand Prix, doing our best and trying to win for Ferrari.
01:16:11Of course, this was the old Monza.
01:16:13There were no chicanes.
01:16:14So it was, really was flat out all the way.
01:16:17Really, really very fast.
01:16:19But Ix and Giunti, they figured in the lead battle for a while.
01:16:23But then they retired.
01:16:24Both cars went out quite early.
01:16:29Which left only Clay, only Ragazzoni.
01:16:32It was the only Ferrari left in the race.
01:16:33And Ragazzoni had joined Ferrari only in the middle of that season.
01:16:37And never won a race.
01:16:39So suddenly all the focus, all the pressure was on him.
01:16:42It was a huge Italian crowd.
01:16:43Just everybody willing him to win the race.
01:16:46Clay had a reputation at the time for being a bit wild.
01:16:49And everybody was thinking,
01:16:50Ah, jeez, is he gonna drop it?
01:16:52Is he gonna spin?
01:16:53Is he gonna make a mistake?
01:16:57And really, in the late stages, the only guy who was anywhere near Clay was Jackie Stewart.
01:17:05And there's no question, you know, the Ferrari was a quicker car.
01:17:08But even so, Jackie Stewart was Jackie Stewart.
01:17:10And Clay was, as I say, was new to it.
01:17:12But I remember the last few laps, Clay coming out of Parabolica every lap.
01:17:17And then coming past the pits, going down to the Curva Grande.
01:17:20And every lap he was moving left, right, left, right.
01:17:25To try and shake Stewart off his slipstream.
01:17:46It worked. He made no mistakes. And he won the race. And it was extraordinarily emotional. I mean, the crowd
01:17:53invasion.
01:17:5524 hours earlier, you know, Rint had died.
01:18:05And I finished second in the race.
01:18:07It was a slipstreaming race, but the Ferrari had better legs. It was just that little bit faster.
01:18:13It was a good result for us to be second.
01:18:16I had a mechanical failure, that Grand Prix. But he won.
01:18:20All these people running on the tracks after the Grand Prix was, and still is, when it happened in Italy,
01:18:29an incredible picture.
01:18:31It was just fantastic.
01:18:38It was the first time, I remember, that there was the invasion of the pista.
01:18:44And it was an incredible victory for us.
01:18:46It was incredible.
01:18:47The public thought Clay was Italian.
01:18:52The images of the 312B and the images of Monza vant together forever.
01:18:56For that day, for that victory, for that party, it remains in memory.
01:19:01And so it was a perfect day.
01:19:06You can reach the car, you can see them, you can touch them, you can hear them.
01:19:11The noises are really incredible noises.
01:19:14That we miss a little bit, honestly, in Formula One today.
01:19:20Then every development of this car went quicker and quicker and quicker.
01:19:24When I joined them, we already had the third version of it.
01:19:27I can't remember which one exactly.
01:19:28Then I started going with this car and it was dominating Formula One, I would say, 75, 6, 7, 8.
01:19:36It was one of the most beautiful periods of my life.
01:19:41...
01:19:47...
01:19:54...
01:19:56...
01:19:58For you, my Lord, my Lord, my Lord, my Lord, my Lord.
01:20:34Amen.
01:21:04Oh, I feel never gonna be enough for you.
01:21:14I'm free.
01:21:28Oh, I feel never gonna be enough for you.
01:21:38Oh, I feel never gonna be enough for you.
01:22:05I feel never gonna be enough for you.
01:22:21I feel never gonna be enough for you.
01:22:34I feel never gonna be enough for you.
01:23:01I feel never gonna be enough for you.
01:23:20I feel never gonna be enough for you.
01:23:22Bye!
01:23:23Bye!
01:23:23Bye!
