The Delhi poll body has clarified that standard summary revision (SIR) notices sent to voters, including several high-profile individuals, do not imply deletion from the electoral roll. According to Election Commission sources, the Chief Electoral Officer is addressing and facilitating these cases on a priority basis as part of standard operating procedures. The issue came to light after multiple prominent figures—including Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, former army leadership, and CBI Director Praveen Sood's family—received notices stating they were unmapped with the previous revision exercise. Amid concerns and political claims regarding draft electoral list discrepancies affecting leaders across political lines, officials confirmed that voters have a one-month window to submit documents and rectify their details before the publication of the final list.

00:05Now, beginning with breaking news at this given point, this is the poll panel defending the SIR notices to the
00:12big wigs.
00:13Now, what we are getting to understand, Delhi poll body notices do not mean deletion.
00:18That is what the poll body has come out to say.
00:20They have to say that Delhi, in fact, the Delhi poll body has to say that the notices are a
00:26part of standard operating procedures.
00:28There is nothing more to it at this point of time.
00:32But this is the breaking news that we are bringing to you.
00:35On that note, viewers, the Election Commission sources have also come out to say that the CEO is facilitating,
00:41that is, the Chief Election Officer is facilitating all such cases on priority.
00:45This is an SIR exercise that has been underway in the national capital.
00:51And high-profile names have, in fact, come under the EC scanner.
00:54And that is where this entire story got triggered.
00:56Because the names included, the likes of a sitting cabinet minister of the centre, which is S.J. Shankar, his
01:04wife.
01:05Again, ex-army chief.
01:08His wife as well get SIR notices.
01:10And they have all been notified that they are unmapped with the last SIR.
01:16That's where the problem arises.
01:17Now, other names, other high-profile names are included in this.
01:21CBI director, Sood, family.
01:23They also get the EC notices.
01:25Now, what is it that the Delhi poll body has come out to respond to this?
01:29That there is a deletion saga.
01:32There is an SIR deletion saga.
01:35The entire alert that's been brought up from these high-profile voters itself.
01:40However, this is a part of the procedure.
01:42There is nothing to be afraid of here.
01:44It does not mean that your name will be deleted from the list altogether.
01:48And we have Aishwarya Paliwal joining us on the broadcast with more details on the same.
01:52Aishwarya, very good evening to you.
01:54What exactly do we understand from the poll body's response here?
01:57Because they have to say this is standard operating procedure.
02:00But it's also, at the end of the day, a bit concerning when such high-profile voters are getting notices.
02:06Then it also raises questions about what is then happening to other voters out there.
02:11Well, definitely, you know, the other question that you have asked is something that almost everyone at the moment is
02:16grappling with,
02:17be it the CEO's office, be it the Election Commission of India.
02:20From what we understand from our social media, the EPA is keeping a hawk's eye on this.
02:26The CEO, in fact, is looking at all these big ticket names on priority.
02:30So these names will be fixed.
02:32Also, there's a big clarification coming in from the CEO's office.
02:35And they are saying that people still have one month's time to make sure that they do get their names
02:40cleared and rectified.
02:43So that is also something which at the moment is being done.
02:46But yes, what we will now have to wait and see is whether these names are being added in the
02:51final list or not.
02:52That actually is a big question.
02:54And that is the main test.
02:55Because a lot of people, in fact, have been questioning that, yes, names are getting deleted.
02:59People are going with documents, but it's taking a long time for the rectification process to actually conclude.
03:05So will it happen in the national capital?
03:07Also, that's a big question.
03:08We will have to wait and watch.
03:09But yes, the CEO's office at the moment is maintaining that these cases, the high-profile cases that we have
03:14been seeing,
03:15being deleted in the draft list, these big cases are being looked at on priority.
03:20You know, Aishwarya, the other aspect that had played out of this entire story is the fact that there was
03:25politics already snowballing over the matter.
03:28Because opposition leaders had to say that, as usual, they'd come to, you know, point their guns, calling it almost
03:35politically motivated what was happening.
03:37Those were the allegations coming in from the likes of Manish Asodia, Arvind Kejriwal, earlier in the day when their
03:43names had, in fact, appeared in this list as well,
03:45with similar notices being served.
03:47Now, with such members also being present in the very list, I think one thing gets very clear here that
03:54there is no particular, you know, vendetta here that's playing out at the end of the day.
04:00It is a procedural, if at all, a lapse for that matter that needs to be looked at much more
04:06closely.
04:07Well, definitely, you know, the process needs to be looked at much more closely, because what this has brought to
04:12the fore is the fact that
04:15we are seeing high-profile names being, in fact, added to the list, their names being deleted.
04:22And this definitely, you know, brings to the fore a big question, what happens to those who, you know, who
04:28have genuine documents,
04:29but they have their names cut out. So, if we have, you know, people like Najeeb Jang, if we have
04:34people like the other top of the profile names like Amit Maldia,
04:41then what will happen to the common man? That's a big question which definitely is being asked and is the
04:46question that both the ECIA as well as the CEO's office will have to clarify.
04:49For now, they are in a firefighting mode and they are saying that the top names that have been deleted,
04:55they are being looked at on priority.
05:00Right, Aishwarya, thank you for putting that into perspective for our viewers and we'll, of course, keep a very close
05:05track on this very story.
