00:27And first for PJ, what takes this cover story distinctly Esquire VH in terms of storytelling, voice, and editorial language?
00:37Thanks. I just wanted to emphasize that when we were deciding on the September cover,
00:45like I mentioned, obviously James is at the top of the list when you're talking about who's the most stylish,
00:52most fashionable in many abilities right now. I don't know what you would have done if you had not said
01:00yes to discover,
01:02so we're very grateful. As for the cover story, I think it also helped that the guy who interviewed,
01:11our teacher's editor, who is really new on this. He is himself a big music guy. I think this is
01:18a lot of music.
01:20And I think, yeah, exactly. So I feel like he and James kind of hit it off when they were
01:28talking.
01:28And he managed to get some, you know, very weak insights from James from that interview.
01:37So overall that we're very grateful that it all came together and find the world that we can see.

01:56So we're probably going to ask you this right now. Public figures are expected to be in a certain mold,
02:03to fit a certain mold. So PJ, why do you feel like that was an important conversation to have
02:09in this Squire's cover story for this one? Thanks. I think I was, when I was reading the cover story,
02:21I was pleasantly surprised with how James was able to answer even more questions that he gave me,
02:31especially about the fact that you don't have to try so hard to, you know, present yourself to the public.
02:41I really like his quote about focusing on being more free than just focusing on other things.
02:50Yeah, and I feel like it captures perfectly where we are right now as a society.
02:56You focus too much on, you know, how we present ourselves to the public. We're always so conscious of what
03:04we do and what we say.
03:05So in that sense, the idea that you need to be free and being yourself, I think that's a very
03:17powerful message.
03:18And I'm really glad that James was able to communicate that with the cover.

03:36Um, sir, PJ, first. Um, of course, yung theme nung Esquire, Albert, na naman,
03:43So, um, um, it happens on a variety of topics, you know,
03:47National Personal Growth, music, et cetera. Um, I know,
03:53saan part ng personal growth in dreams were you attracted to, para ma-i-feature in the size of it?
04:03I think obviously it started with the theme of the monthly theme for this first of September.
04:12Obviously I talked about how globally September has always been traditionally focused on fashion and style.
04:19So we started with that and we talked about Sinovaha who are in the top names in Philippine fashion and
04:29style.
04:30And obviously James was at the top of that list.
04:36And in that sense, when we started with that and then afterwards we started researching more on what he's doing
04:43right now.
04:44Obviously he's very busy, he's doing a belly series, he just released an album, and then he's doing all of
04:53these things.
04:53So it's kind of basically how he's doing a movie.
04:57So it all came together.
04:58It felt to us that it was written in the stars that it was meant to be.
05:06So yeah, we took that and we were happy.
05:10And I'm glad that it all happened.

05:44How are you treating this new wave of, parang popularity or new wave of business that is a change?
06:04I feel like this is almost like a secondary chance that you can get.
06:10I'm actually shocked that I was able to come back the way that I did.
06:19I did work really hard, but at the same time, it did come very easy to me.
06:24It was like the fans were just kind of waiting for me like, yes, my name is back.
06:28And then, of course, with A.B.S. again, and I thought, I'm not so happy coming back.
06:32They gave me such great projects, and with the music and everything going so well,
06:37it feels like a second chance where I'm really trying not to take anything for granted.
06:46And I'm trying to really enjoy it without feeling too attached to it.
06:52Because, you know, whatever happened before, it was so easy for me to lose that.
06:56And that might happen again one day too, and I'm okay with that.
06:59But for right now, I'm really enjoying this wave, and I plan on writing it as far as possible.

07:23First of all, congrats for you.
07:26The first thing that got my attention was to reward someone.
07:30So, BJ, how does the Esquire describe James as a fashion icon?
07:42Well, when you look it up, it literally means someone with a profound skill or someone with a deep knowledge
07:52of something.
07:53And I think, you know, obviously this fits James with me.
07:59Because, like I said, they're, and I didn't mention this to James when we were chatting and agreeing to shoot.
08:05So, when you talk about Philippine men's fashion and style right now, I didn't feel like there's a whole lot
08:13of, I don't feel like men right now are putting themselves out there and being more, you know, like I
08:25said, free about how to express themselves.
08:29So, in that sense, it matched James being a style so on and being like an example for other, I
08:40guess, guys to follow, you know, being more free about how they express themselves, especially with fashion.
08:51And then, I'd like to ask James.
08:52How was it for you?
08:53Like, you're being bold, as I was around.
08:55And what does this phrase mean to you?
08:57It's very intimidating, to be honest.
09:01But I really do appreciate that, you know, that that's how they see me, and we've had a lot of
09:08really good conversations about this, and although I do appreciate the title, I think where I come from when it
09:18comes to fashion and style, I think you just reach a place where you don't need, you don't have the
09:29need to feel comfortable.
09:30In certain things like, oh, no, I can only wear this because I'm comfortable wearing this.
09:34Oh, no, I can't do that because I'm...
09:36I think you reach a point where it's like, it's cool.
09:40Let's try this.
09:40I'm down to try that because I'm just comfortable in my little skin.
09:46So, put me here.
09:47Let's try that.
09:48Let's explore more.
09:49And it's, you know, sometimes you can cross some lines and like, okay, that's too far.
09:56But, yeah, just being, having a freedom to explore and to try and to express yourself.
10:02I think that's the root of what, you know, what we talked about, and I think part of the reason
10:08why they wanted to get into this.

10:13I would like to borrow the word home from your sophomore hour.
10:17Of course, as an artist who, um, who did two words, and of course, we know that words change their
10:26meaning over time.
10:27Yeah.
10:28Now, the word home, what does this word mean to you?
10:31It's going to take a while now.
10:33Because, yeah, it's just one word, but, for me, it has so many meanings.
10:38And, um, through the process of creating my previous EP, JGH, it's about me.
10:44Um, I've explained that as being more, I call it the baby brother, but it's just, uh, honey, I'm home.
10:51Um, but, that came from, like, a more physical sense.
10:57I, I, I've been overseas, traveling a lot, and I was finally back home, and, you know, getting my feet
11:05planted again.
11:06And, uh, making songs that I love again, and being with people that I, you know, trust again.
11:13It just felt like I was physically coming in.
11:15Um, I recently started shooting in this way, so, that theme is very strong.
11:19Um, this album, though, with Honey, I'm Home, it goes through so many phases, and it gets deeper and deeper,
11:25actually, as the album goes on.
11:27And, it starts with home being, um, a person like this.
11:32And, yeah, that keeps getting deeper and deeper, and by the end of the album, it's all undercoming.
11:38Home becomes, uh, it's so, uh, it's learning to be the person, where it doesn't matter where you are, you
11:48make everyone else a bit of home.
11:49Um, something like that.
11:51Maybe.
11:53And, um...
11:53I need to, um, I need to make it mean something more.
11:58Yeah, yeah.
11:59Uh, last question for myself.
12:00Of course, part of the theme of, uh, as part of this personal growth.
12:05And, part of the personal growth is, um, you being in control of your career, your life.
12:12Um, what does this freedom mean to you right now, you know, having, you know, being able to make decisions?
12:18Um, what does this freedom mean to you right now?
12:21Um, being in control of your career, of having great control of the data that you're running?
12:31Um, it's, uh, it's everything right now, actually.
12:37I really think about it, um, it's so important, uh, to feel like, you know, you're free to, um, to
12:46create and express yourself, and to work with people who want to work with.
12:50Um, but, also at the same time that I'm making sure I'm getting that same feeling of freedom of everyone
12:56else around me, as well.
12:57Um, working on this project, I have, um, a new home album.
13:03I really worked with so many different people.
13:06And, it was no, uh, it was so free-flowing.
13:10It wasn't like, no bad idea, uh, there weren't no bad ideas at all.
13:14It was really just, uh, you know, freedom, experience.
13:17And, I also want that experience when I work with my team, basically.
13:22Right.
13:22Because, what's the point of making an album?
13:25That, it's, sure, it gets successful.
13:27But, if no one wants to make it again.
13:30You know, if no one on your team wants to go through that experience again.
13:33And, uh, I like to think that everyone's excited for the next one, too.
13:37Because we just had so much damn fun making it.
13:40So, you're very excited.
