00:00Now, I want to address the question of where I stand in the situation in Israel and Palestine
00:06and whether my doing this concert here tonight implies where I stand.
00:09I have tried in my career not to be a political commentator in kind
00:13because I want my music and shows to be about unity, not division.
00:18About humanity, not politics.
00:23But this is a humanitarian issue and I cannot hide how I feel about it anymore.
00:30What happened in Israel and at the known music festival on October 7th was horrific
00:35and compounded centuries of Jewish pain.
00:38What is happening in Gaza is catastrophic and unjustifiable and disproportionate.
00:45My heart has been broken by the scale of devastation and loss of civilians lives, children's lives.
00:53And the systemic injustice you are seeing unfold in the West Bank cannot be overlooked.
00:59I am already speaking to people across the spectrum to work out how to make a contribution
01:03that helps victims of these terrible times and listening and learning because I do not know enough.
01:10I honestly am so grateful that you are here standing with me.
01:24This concert is still a place where everyone is welcome
01:27and everyone here can stand beside people that have opposing views
01:31and everyone here can stand by people that they don't agree with on everything
01:35but they can all agree on singing these songs.
