A powerful explosion struck near a mosque at the Old Police Lines in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during Friday prayers on September 18. Police and rescue officials later reported at least 16 deaths and more than 50 injuries.
Gunfire was also reported after the blast as security forces engaged armed attackers inside the police compound. No group had immediately claimed responsibility.
