00:05Is the graphic novel the perfect form?
00:07That's what I'm asking.
00:09I guess that depends on whether you're the cartoonist or the audience.
00:23You know, graphic novels are an aspiration,
00:26and they're a commercial category, and they're a movement.
00:30There are a lot of different things,
00:31and like most words, they have a lot of different meanings.
00:34Graphic novels are a really exciting representation
00:37of a whole lot of the arts and cultural things that are going on in Melbourne.
00:41A city like Melbourne, by international standards,
00:46punches above its weight,
00:47and to some extent we don't know what the hell we're doing,
00:49and that is like a really good thing.
00:59Melbourne is already becoming perhaps, I think,
01:02part of some enormous movement of graphic novelists.
01:06There's a little kind of community that's snowballing in Australia now,
01:09and has been for a long time now.
01:13And we do it not because it's a big money spinner,
01:16or because it brings great fame or prestige,
01:19but because we love it.
01:20I really think a lot of very exciting work is being done in this form,
01:24and I want to support the Australian creators that are doing that.
01:42What are you guys doing?
01:44Oh, these guys are doing a documentary about Australian comics.
01:48Oh, nice, nice. Good luck.
01:50Thanks, man. Catch you around.
01:59Thanks, man.
