00:26This is Fall 2 Deadpoint, and yes, it somehow finds a way to make heights even more terrifying
00:34than the first movie already did.

00:57Today, we're climbing back up for Fall 2 Deadpoint, the sequel to 2022's surprise hit, Fall.
01:05Let's get into it.
01:07Quick reminder of where the first film left off, in Fall.
01:11Best friends Becky and Shiloh climbed a decommissioned 2,000-foot TV tower
01:16to spread the ashes of Becky's late husband, Dan, who died in a climbing accident of his own a year
01:22earlier.
01:24They got stranded at the top after their ladder collapsed, and Shiloh ended up dying in the process.
01:31Becky survived and got rescued, and that film went on to become a genuine surprise hit,
01:36made for a scrappy $3 million and pulling in over $21 million worldwide,
01:41with critics specifically praising Grace Caroline Curry and Virginia Gardner's performances
01:46even while dinging the film for some shaky visual effects and screenplay logic.
01:52Fall 2 Deadpoint picks up with Becky having become something of a social media sensation
01:58off the back of that survival story, much like Shiloh was before her death.
02:03But this sequel isn't really about Becky at all.
02:05It's about Shiloh's sister, Jax, played by Harriet Slater,
02:10who's been left picking up the pieces after losing her.
02:14Jax decides to give away Shiloh's old truck to a woman named Luce,
02:18played by Arcema Thomas, who claims to be one of Shiloh's old college friends.
02:23While going through Shiloh's things, the two of them stumble onto a notebook,
02:28where Shiloh had written out a whole bucket list of extreme adventures she'd always wanted to complete,
02:33including one specific entry, a plank walk suspended 3,000 feet in the air on Mount Kwan in Thailand.
02:41Jax isn't the adventurous type, not even close.
02:45A flashback reveals exactly why there's tension buried under her decision to go through with this anyway.
02:52Years earlier, she and Shiloh went skydiving together,
02:56and Shiloh faked passing out mid-fall just to scare her,
03:00later claiming it was tough love meant to teach Jax to stand up for herself.
03:06Jax's response in that memory is about as cold as it gets.
03:10She simply tells her sister to drop dead.
03:14Despite all that history, Jax agrees to make the trip to Thailand with Luce,
03:19telling herself it's the right way to honor the sister she lost.
03:23Once they arrive, a local guide, played by Tom Brittany,
03:28leads them up a rusted, centuries-old ladder toward the plank walkway itself,
03:33a structure that's clearly seen better decades.
03:37It's the kind of location this franchise has built its entire identity around,
03:42somewhere genuinely stunning to look at,
03:45and genuinely terrifying to actually stand on.
03:48And the film wastes no time making that height feel real before anything goes wrong.
03:55Partway across, the rain starts,
03:58and it triggers a rock slide that tears out a whole section of planks,
04:02cutting Jax and Luce off from their guide entirely.
04:06They try heading back the way they came,
04:09only for a second rock slide to destroy that path too.
04:12Stranding both women on one small, fragile, surviving stretch of planking
04:18with absolutely nowhere to go.
04:21Their only real hope is a backpack containing a walkie-talkie,
04:27dangling frustratingly out of reach on a support beam jutting out from the mountain.
04:33Their guide confirms over the radio that he's alive somewhere below,
04:38but getting to that backpack means somebody has to cross open air
04:43on nothing but exposed metal supports.
04:47Thousands of feet above solid ground.
04:51Here's where the film throws its first real curveball.
04:56Jax discovers that Luce was never actually one of Shiloh's college friends at all.
05:01She's really just an online fan of Shiloh's,
05:03who lied about the connections,
05:05specifically because she knew Jax would never hand over that truck to a total stranger.
05:12Here's where the furs is lie.
05:15Luce attempts the dangerous crossing to reach the backpack herself,
05:19gets hurt in the process,
05:21and has to be pulled back to safety by Jax using a length of rope.
05:26Once she's safe, Luce reveals something else she'd been hiding.
05:30She's actually dying of cancer.
05:32And getting trapped on this mountain has forced her to confront the fact that she isn't ready to go yet.
05:38Not like this.
05:40It's a genuinely human moment,
05:43tucked inside all the vertigo-inducing stunt work.
05:46And it recontextualizes why she lied her way onto this trip in the first place.
05:51Someone running out of time who wanted one real, unfiltered adventure before the end.
05:56Using a dead stranger's bucket list as her excuse to actually go live it,
06:02Jax herself ends up making the crossing across the support beams,
06:06successfully retrieves the backpack,
06:08and radios their guide for rescue.
06:11He comes through,
06:12and the two women finally make it to the mountain's peak,
06:16where a helicopter is waiting to fly them out.
06:19That's when the second major twist hits.
06:21Right before boarding,
06:24Luce happens to look inside her own oxygen canister,
06:27and finds it stuffed with a bag of fentanyl.
06:30Their trusted guide turns out to be running drugs the entire time,
06:34using unsuspecting tourists,
06:36like Jax and Luce,
06:37as cover while his own crew,
06:40the very people flying that rescue helicopter,
06:42move his product for him.
06:44Luce throws the drugs off the mountain rather than let them be used,
06:49and the guide responds by pushing her to her death,
06:52right there on the peak.
06:55He then turns on Jax,
06:57fighting her for the matching stash hidden in her own canister,
07:00and the struggle spills onto a rickety bridge that finally gives out onto them both.
07:05Jax manages to clip herself into a safety line just in time,
07:10but the guide isn't so lucky,
07:12and falls.
07:14Jax makes it onto the helicopter.
07:17Using the surviving fentanyl,
07:19has her ticket to actually getting out alive.
07:21Back at a bar afterward,
07:23Jax discovers yet another page in Shiloh's bucket list notebook.
07:27This one simply labeled,
07:29Hell's Chasm.
07:30In a separate scene,
07:32Becky receives a celebration of life invitation for Shiloh in the mail,
07:37and on the back of it is a photograph that looks an awful lot like that exact same location,
07:42setting up right where the story goes next.
07:46Thematically,
07:47the film is clearly reaching for the same
07:49face your fears message that powered the first movie.
07:53But more than one reviewer has pointed out
07:55that the logic underneath it doesn't fully hold together.
07:59Jax spends the whole film framing this trip as honoring her sister,
08:02despite the fact that Shiloh's own reckless pursuit of exactly this kind of extreme stunt
08:08is what got her killed in the first place,
08:10and what nearly gets Jax killed here, too.
08:14It raises a question the film never really answers.
08:20Is climbing to the exact kind of location that killed your sister really?
08:26Facing your fears.
08:30Or is it just repeating the same mistake with better production values?
08:35Critics have called that emotional three-line more baffling than moving.
08:40Drawing a direct line back to the original film's own widely mocked third-act twist
08:45as proof this franchise has a recurring problem,
08:49figuring out what its own ending is actually trying to say.
08:53Reception overall has leaned pretty negative.
08:56Rotten Tomatoes reviews have described the sequel as
09:00losing the credibility and suspense that made the first film work,
09:04calling it a step down in believability,
09:07despite doubling down on the vertigo and stunt work.
09:11Not every reaction was quite that harsh.
09:15Some reviewers still found it an effective, stress-inducing watch,
09:19if you're specifically there for white-knuckle heights
09:22and don't need the plot to hold up to close scrutiny afterward,
09:26with one review specifically recommending it to anyone who enjoys leaving the theater
09:31feeling stressed and clammy-palmed.
09:34That split in reaction tracks pretty closely with how the original film was received, too.
09:39Audiences and genre fans generally willing to forgive shaky plotting
09:44in exchange for genuinely effective vertigo,
09:46while more traditional critics hold the writing to a higher standard the film doesn't always clear.

09:53this sequel swapped out original director Scott Mann for the Spyrig brothers.

10:06While Mann stays involved as a producer this time around rather than in the director's chair,
10:12it was filmed on location in Thailand,
10:15with production originally planned to start back in June of 2024,
10:19before actually beginning sometime in 2025,
10:22and wrapping by that September.
10:25The film finally reached theaters on September 2nd,
10:292026,
10:31after being pushed back slightly from its original August release date.
10:36International distribution rights were arranged at the Toronto International Film Festival,
10:41with Lionsgate's Premier Division handling the theatrical release in the US.
10:47There's no post-credits scene here,
10:49so you're not missing anything by heading out the second the credits start rolling.
10:52Looking ahead,
10:55Fall 3 Inches is already confirmed to be in development,
10:58with Scott Mann returning to write and direct this time,
11:01and both Jax and Becky expected to return alongside a new supporting cast.
11:06The project is set up as a joint production between T-Shop Productions,
11:11Flawless Productions,
11:12and Capstone Pictures,
11:14the same team behind both earlier films,
11:17and it was reportedly greenlit alongside this sequel all the way back in 2023,
11:23with both follow-ups originally intended to be produced back-to-back.
11:28Fans have already started piecing together where the story goes from here.
11:32There's a pointed little moment in this film where Jax mentions that Shiloh always preferred spending time with Becky over

11:39hinting at resentment that could easily boil over in the third installment.
11:45Combine that with Becky's celebration of life invitation,

11:51and the working theory going around is that Becky shows up expecting a memorial,
11:56and instead finds herself trapped at yet another impossible height,
12:00this time with Jax instead of her old best friend.
