00:33this very special item
00:35which is a miniature Quran
00:37printed in Scotland
00:39in about 1896
00:42so the late 19th century
00:44and it is
00:46a photolithographic
00:48production which means
00:49it was first produced
00:51as an actual manuscript in Turkey
00:54and then it was photographed
00:55and made much smaller
00:57and then printed in this very tiny format
01:00it came with this metal locket
01:05it can be put in
01:07and locked in here
01:08and it has a lens at the front for reading
01:12we know it was extremely popular
01:15it sold in the Indian subcontinent
01:17to the Muslims there
01:19it even sold in Mecca
01:21we know that pilgrims used to purchase these there
01:25and it was pretty much the most popular production
01:29of their miniature book production
01:30that ever did
01:31in this particular printing press
01:33in Scotland
01:34and there had been
01:36similar miniature Qurans
01:38printed in Turkey
01:39and in the Idris subcontinent
01:40in the 19th century
01:41but this one is the first
01:43printed in Europe
01:44which brought the tradition
01:46of miniature manuscripts
01:48such as this one
01:49which is an actual manuscript
01:50and it's from the 19th century
01:52into print for the first time
