00:00Welcome back distinguished gentlemen, I just bought this new race car
00:03with a turbo
00:05and I'm going to fix everything wrong with it and sell it for a huge profit.
00:09This is what I actually started with, a 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo.
00:14I bought it sight unseen for only $1,000 and as you can see there's a lot of reasons why.
00:19The car does drive well though, but as I'm driving it the suspension is making a lot of noise
00:24so let's bring it in and have a look underneath.
00:25The first thing I find besides our check engine is a major oil leak,
00:30the AC doesn't blow cold, the windshield is cracked,
00:33and both inner tie rods and link are loose.
00:36Wow, I don't believe it, inner tie rod is loose.
00:39See that play in and out right there?
00:41So let's start with the easiest job, the windshield.
00:44I'll remove all the plastic trim that surrounds it and then me and little Maddy can cut out the old
00:49one.
00:49I know you guys are used to seeing me glue the windshields in,
00:51but today my young apprentice becomes a real blue collar guy.
00:55Brother.
00:56And learns how to do it himself.
00:57Oh my god, I think you're too big.
00:59And after a few lessons it looks like he got it down pretty good
01:02and now we can put our windshield into place.
01:05Yeah, good.
01:05Okay.
01:06Oh yeah.
01:07Boy, that looks so much better and now I can move on to my second problem, the check engine.
01:12This check engine isn't always on, it comes and goes, so let's see if I can figure it out.
01:17My scanner is saying that we have a purge valve with an open circuit code, so let's start there.
01:21This is our purge valve and a circuit high code is telling me we have an electrical issue.
01:25To find it, I'll first start by unplugging the connector and sending 12 volts directly to our purge valve
01:31to see if it's clicking on and off.
01:34I hope you guys hear that.
01:35So now that I know the purge valve is good, I'll need to get out a wiring diagram
01:38and find out if we have a bad wire or a computer problem.
01:42I find my main power wire and find that it's good with 12 volts
01:45and then I unplug the ground side that goes into the computer
01:48to see if we have any resistance or a broken wire going to it.
01:52But everything looks good there too.
01:54I'm sweating.
01:55I hope we don't have a bad ECU.
01:57I decide to wiggle my wire as a last ditch effort while still measuring resistance
02:01to see if I have a half broken wire since our code isn't on all the time
02:05and I am very happy with what I find.
02:08Oh, 96, 257, 99.
02:11I may have found a broken wiring harness.
02:14I'll strip out all the shielding to expose the wires
02:16and as I do that, one of the wires snaps into pieces.
02:20Poof, crisis averted.
02:21It's an easy fix and I'm going to show you guys who don't know how to solder how to fix
02:25this.
02:25But Matty, my wife's boyfriend says if you don't know how to solder, you're a hack.
02:30Well, the good people at Solder Stick reached out
02:33and sent me these all-in-one heat shrink connectors
02:35with low temperature solder already in it.
02:38All I need to do is heat the shrink wrap with a heat gun
02:40and the solder inside bonds the two wires into place
02:43and makes a strong waterproof connection.
02:46With the wire repaired, our check engine is now officially gone.
02:49Unfortunately, I'm running out of time
