00:00From my point of view, trained in Western science and philosophy, the importance of suffering is something that Eastern traditions
00:09have given to us.
00:10Everybody knows suffering is bad and part of the human condition, but it is not as dominant or anywhere near
00:18as dominant in Western thinking.
00:20It's part of it, but to me, consciousness has bigger implications in terms of purpose or meaning in life, or
00:27is there an afterlife, or is there a relationship with some kind of deity of some kind.
00:33In Western thought, consciousness pertains to deeper questions like purpose, meaning, and many other things.
00:40Now, in none of these questions, has it been made obvious for whom? For whom?
00:47When you say, what do I have this life for? I mean, whose life is it?
00:52When we say, what's the purpose of life? You know, purpose for whom?
00:57So, we talk of consciousness stripped of the conscious one, and that's a fundamental error, or oversight, or whatever.
