00:00When you insert the key and turn it, you're not just activating the switch.
00:03Inside the key is a small chip called a transponder
00:06And around the switch there is an antenna that detects it.
00:09The antenna sends a signal to the key's chip.
00:11The chip responds with a unique security code.
00:15and that code travels to the immobilizer module,
00:17the engine computer or the BCM.
00:19If the code is correct, the computer authorizes the boot.
00:22Then it allows the fuel pump and injectors to work.
00:25and the ignition system so that the engine can start.
00:29But if the key is not recognized, the immobilizer system blocks the ignition.
00:33The engine can crank, but it won't start.
00:35because the computer cuts off fuel, spark, or injection to prevent theft.
