š° THE FULL STORY
Trump said Wednesday that he does not expect the Iran war to end until after November's midterm elections, and that oil and gas prices will not fall until then. "I think the war's going to end immediately after the election because they can't hold out any longer," he said, telling reporters, "Right after the election, oil prices are going to be tumbling downward."
He claimed that Iran was deliberately prolonging the war to affect the vote, saying Iran wants a weak group of people in office so they can have their nuclear weapon. He provided no proof for the election claim. He dismissed concerns about political fallout, saying Americans remain supportive of the offensive and asking whether they would let Iran have a nuclear weapon.
Energy markets moved sharply. Global benchmark oil topped $100 a barrel again, with Brent crude trading above $101 and WTI above $96 per barrel, highs not seen since the early weeks of the war. Gas prices jumped 7.3 cents per gallon Wednesday, the largest one-day increase since May, bringing the national average to $4.22 per gallon.
The war is now in its seventh month. Trump is facing falling polling numbers and pressure from within the Republican Party to end the war, and Republicans risk losing control of Congress in the midterms on 3 November. Recent fighting included US attacks on five oil tanker ships tied to Iran and Iranian attacks on US Navy destroyers and tankers.
Trump also claimed gas prices will fall below $2 per gallon, but not until after the November midterms. Fuel analyst Patrick De Haan of GasBuddy said he sees no guarantees of oil and gas prices falling after the midterms.

Left coverage foregrounds that Trump conceded gas prices are unlikely to fall before the election and made his claim about Iran timing the war without evidence. It highlights the political stakes for Trump, tying the Iran war and Canada tariffs to a clouded midterm pitch. The framing centers the gap between Trump's promises and the immediate pain of a $4.22 national average and the largest one-day price jump since May. (CNN, New York Times)
⬠HOW THE CENTER COVERS IT
Center coverage treats the claim as an unproven political assertion, noting Trump provided no proof that Iran is trying to affect the election. It foregrounds context that partisan sides skip: Trump's falling polling, pressure from within his own party to end the war, and an expert view from GasBuddy's Patrick De Haan that there are no guarantees prices will fall after the midterms. It grounds the story in market data and th
