00:02Then I see the plane dip his wings and go sideways like this.
00:09As soon as I saw the other building get hit, it was just automatic response.
00:15They didn't think at all that that building was going to fall.
00:20Ray certainly did.
00:23She was covered in that white powder.
00:26she was absolutely covered in you wouldn't even recognize what she looked like
00:43This is our first backpack drive this year
00:47because last year we weren't able to do it
00:52My foundation, it's about not forgetting.
00:56But at the same token, it's about honoring all those men and women that die on that day.
01:03Oh, it is. It's my mic.
01:05Where's my mic?
01:07I was like, you brought me the big shavance.
01:10Of course.
01:10Can you bring help?
01:11No, I'm all you need. Don't worry.
01:15This is a lot of work.
01:17How are you?
01:18I am good.
01:19Okay.
01:21So, this is what I need.
01:23I'm taking this.
01:28This is my purpose in life.
01:31My purpose is to work hard and give back to the community that he served
01:37and to continue to keep his legacy alive and honor all our fallen heroes
01:43that will perish on that day.
01:48Because someone in my immediate vicinity actually died, who I was leaving with, it will never leave me.
01:55I don't know how it's ever going to hit me that particular day.
01:58Sometimes I'm able to go through the day and it's fine, and other times it's not fine.
02:02So I don't work on September 11th during the hours that everything happened because I don't know how I'm going
02:07to react that particular day.
02:14I recognized I needed something else and so, you know, I'm like, okay, if they can kill you at work,
02:18you better really love your job.
02:20And I left at the end of 2003 and took a year and a half off and then I started
02:26doing all my hobbies and passions outside of work.
02:30Do you think you will have made those changes in life? I mean, it's a very hypothetical thing, but like...
02:35Oh, no, I never would have left. I would never have left Morgan Stanley because I thought my career was
02:40in finance and, as I said, I was on a good track.
03:05She was in Manhattan at 9-11. She worked there every day, you know, five days a week.
03:11She walked across the Manhattan Bridge to get home, and she was covered in that white powder.
03:18She was absolutely covered. You wouldn't even recognize what she looked like.
03:40About 10 years later, she developed the lung cancer that eventually took her life.
03:47We knew right away that it was related to 9-11, and we applied for the 9-11 fund, and
03:57she was just approved for funds.
04:03I have at least three friends who died of cancer because they were going to the site.
04:09One person died at like 43. It was horrible.
04:11Another person got blood cancer. She's now thankfully okay, but it was harrowing to go through the chemo, and she
04:17had to get a full, you know, bone marrow transplant and all those things.
04:21And it was all from people who were in the dust cloud.
04:23That's why I'm thankful every day that I got out of there before they fell.
04:32Yes, these are all the 23 cops that die on September 11, every single one of them.
04:40And I just created this little area so I could display, you know, his stuff, because I can't put it
04:48away.
04:49I can't put away everything.
04:50This is everything that was recovered from him.
04:54From that day?
04:55Yes.
04:58You know, his personal stuff that he had on him.
05:04That was from his uniform.
05:40All I can do is be proud of him, but I will forever miss him.
05:46It's, you know, it's not easy to talk about it.
05:48It really isn't.
05:51Every year is a reminder that he's not here.
05:56And to me, it's just the way he died.
06:00It's very difficult.
06:01Because that's an anniversary that I have to share with the whole world.
06:08It's, you know, not my personal anniversary.
06:12You know, our personal anniversary is to everyone.
06:19I've always said from the very beginning, it leaves a big hole in your heart.
06:24And you've got to fill that hole somehow.
06:26And we've concentrated so much on our foundation and helping cancer patients.
06:33We don't want to get to a point where we start feeling sorry for ourselves.
06:38Like we're victims.
06:40You know, it's something that happened and it's something we have to deal with.
06:46And it's just something that's part of our lives now.
06:56I love you.
06:57I love you.
07:02I love you.
07:03Gracias por ver el video
