00:00French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have called on Europe to strengthen its space
00:08industry.
00:09Speaking on Thursday in Paris, the second day of the International Space Summit, co-hosted by France and Germany, Macron
00:17described Europe's space sector as fragile.
00:19Our space Europe remains fragile and we have to accelerate. France has taken this turn. We have continued and increased
00:31the investment in this sector, with in particular France 2030, with also the programmatic law for research and with the
00:39military programmatic law.
00:41But we now have to go further and reach the European stage, which is at the scale of the big
00:45challenges.
00:46For her part, Ursula von der Leyen stressed Europe must build together what no member state could build alone.
00:53The ability to access and act in our space not only underpins our prosperity, it increasingly determines our security and
01:05our independence.
01:08Nowhere is this clearer than in Ukraine.
01:11Europe's push to build up its military space assets has been driven by Russia's war in Ukraine, as well as
01:17its decision to distance itself from its long-standing dependence on the U.S. in the space domain.
01:232025 marked a turning point as the European Space Agency approved a record-breaking €22.3 billion budget for its
01:32three-year funding cycle, here marking €35 billion for space security and defence.
01:39A lot is this extension of the interim guidance.
01:39Thank you for learning.
01:40Thanks.
