00:00So hello good morning and I'm coming down after four days of leaving the
00:08the camera traps the trail cams out so I'm coming down to the first one I left
00:15at the fallen tree to see if there's anything on it and make a decision as
00:26to whether I'm going to leave it out whether I might set up the camera trap
00:32and yeah so we're here thankfully it's still there so I'll just go and have a look at it
01:00okay so the good news is that it has recorded plenty of activity 41 recordings most of which
01:11have something on them there's a couple which are just birds and probably some moving leaves
01:19that set it off but the majority have lots of jackal there's a couple with badger and there's
01:31a few good few with the beach martin so that's a really positive thing I'm still not entirely convinced
01:42about leaving it here about how I'm gonna set it up the camera trap that is because it is so
01:49exposed
01:51and the buffalo have been down here there's evidence everywhere of it
01:58so I'm kind of worried about that and it might just be a case of me coming down every evening
02:07to set it up
02:11uh whenever I can and then just um coming back in the morning every morning to take it down again
02:19before the buffalo come but uh yeah right I'm gonna go off to the other one by the river
02:27and see if there's anything on that one so I'll catch up with you there okay so I'm
02:33close to the location of the second trail camp and um it's actually a different location to the one
02:41that you saw me placing it at and the reason for that is that um we had more heavy rain
02:48and because
02:49this river was already in flood uh I got worried that it might be swept away so I came and
02:57checked on
02:57it after two days at which time there was nothing on it so I relocated it and in all honesty
03:06I'm not
03:07expecting to find anything on it now either um like I said it's not a concentrated spot at which animals
03:17will be crossing over and you can sort of guarantee that there will be some traffic
03:21uh it's basically positioned along the path that runs next to the river which is used by animals but
03:30I don't think it it has anywhere near the concentration of traffic that a crossing point would have
03:40so I'm gonna come down here into this jungle again and um see if there's anything on it if there
03:47isn't
03:48I'll probably take it away and try and find another spot so um yeah I'll catch up with you at
03:53the
04:13okay so predictably enough there was nothing on it um three files all of which were me placing it
04:22and arriving now to take it away so as beautiful a location as this is um I don't think it's
04:30going to be
04:30that productive in terms of the camera trap uh I might try when the river is not so swollen um
04:40I try
04:40further downstream next nearer the lake um because I have a feeling that's where more animals will be
04:47concentrated so yeah um I'll go back this evening um to the first spot with the fallen tree and um
04:59set up the um the camera trap there for this evening and I'll basically be going back every day
05:08and uh making sure it's okay uh it's not a location that I feel I can just leave it out
05:14for a week or two
05:15and uh not worry about it um but hopefully it will produce some results and uh yeah and I'll bring
05:23those two years to you as soon as I have them so I shall see you again soon

05:56hello again my friends it is the fifth morning that I am going down to the canal to the fallen
06:04tree to
06:06collect my camera to save it from the buffalos
06:14that come down to drink and bathe in the canal there
06:20and um I've been doing that every day for the last five days and then setting it out again every
06:25evening um because I've just been too anxious uh in case they um they damage it or it gets stolen
06:32seeing as there's so much activity there now
06:35um it'll also be the last time I do that for a while because it's too much
06:41uh effort for me to come down every single day in the morning um and again in the evening to
06:51set it
06:51out plus I'm contaminating the scene every time I do it which makes it less likely the animals will
06:57come through so it's not worth it I think and what I'll do is I'll um I'll keep this location
07:05in mind
07:06for the winter uh when there's uh no activity down here from the buffalos
07:13so I'll be back here again um what else yeah um in terms of the photos I'm really happy with
07:21what
07:21it's produced over the last few nights it's actually quite amazing that um it has such a good uh traffic
07:29of animals that come over that uh fallen tree and I've got images that I'm happy with of the jackal
07:37the badger and the beach martin so yeah um in terms of how I've been setting it the first night
07:46um I had it out I had it set on a on a bulb program
07:53um to to get really long exposures and get more light in the sky
08:00and I had increased the ISO as well uh to that effort to get more light in the sky to
08:063200
08:08but that proved to be too much uh both in terms of the exposure uh the flash was just too
08:14strong
08:15even at minimum power uh and also the um the animals were ghosting really badly
08:22um so basically whatever was behind the foliage that was behind the animal was also being exposed
08:32after the flash um giving the effect of the animal looking see-through which you'll see in a second
08:39um so I switched it for the following nights uh back to what I had it set for that um
08:48originally which
08:49was just a a basic night time and half light mode um on aperture priority uh and uh reduced the
09:00ISO back to 1600
09:02which still did give me some pretty decent light in the sky I have to say so I'm quite happy
09:07with that
09:08so yeah um like I said I'm gonna not going to be putting out the camera again for a while
09:16because I'm off shooting somewhere else in the next few days
09:21so this will be the end of this little series of camera trapping for the moment um hopefully I will
09:28be doing it again in the very near future so yeah I'll still be um doing my regular vlogs though
09:37uh
