Although largely forgotten today, bandleader, pianist and composer Johnson (1893-1975), was quite successful from the late 20's through the 40's. He wrote several hits, the best-known being "Oh". He started his career in Chcago, where his first band was with Rudy Wiedoeft. From 1919 till around 1930 he mainly worked in New York. He also was very successful as the provider of the music for the 1928 George White Scandals and the Greenwich Village Follies. In 1931 he disbanded his orchestra and started working as a musical editor for radio, with a brief intermission during WW II; when he resumed bandleading for a short period of time. This sparkling record, with ocal by Harold Arluck, was made in 1928.
