00:00A section of electrical wire has been broken. What would be the first thing you do? Many people might
00:04immediately think about connecting the two broken ends back together, wrapping them with electrical
00:06tape, and continuing to use the wire. It sounds simple enough, but is that really the strongest
00:10and safest way to do it? Even a small connection can easily come apart, break again, or cause
00:13unexpected problems during use if it isn't done properly. But today, I'm going to share a very
00:17simple trick for repairing a broken electrical wire, making the connection much stronger and
00:20neater without needing any complicated tools. First, I'll work on plug. Since the wire is
00:27completely separated from plug, I need to remove the rubber outer cover around this area to expose
00:30the two wires inside.
01:19Once the outer rubber covering has been removed, we can access the remaining wires directly and start
01:23reconnecting them. Next, I'll work on the electrical cord coming from the device.
01:26Just like with the plug, I also need to remove part of the outer insulation to access the two wires
01:30inside. This time, I'll expose a relatively long section so that the two wires have enough room
01:34to work with, making the next connection easier and more comfortable.
02:02This may sound like a very simple job. Just connect the two broken sections of wire back together.
02:06However, what's even more important is making sure the connection is strong enough that it won't
02:09come apart or become damaged when the wire is subjected outside forces. So, I'm not going to
02:12connect the two wires just yet. Instead, I'll first prepare a rather unusual tool. It will help me
02:16reinforce the connection and make the repaired section of the wire much stronger.
02:21Here, I have a few old used spark plugs. I'll choose one that is still in good condition
02:25and use it for the next step.
02:30After choosing a suitable spark plug, I'll prepare a piece of electrical wire to connect
02:33the two ends of the spark plug together. This wire will create a continuous electrical path between
02:36the two ends, allowing current to flow through the spark plug when we use it.
03:06There is a few other parts of the spark plug. I'll try to help this next step.
03:34Another very important component I need is this 1.5 volt battery.
03:37However, I don't actually need the entire battery, what I really need is a carbon rod inside it.
03:41I'll carefully remove the outer case of the battery to take out this carbon rod.
03:45This will be a very important part of the tool I'm building, and you'll soon see why I need it.
04:06There's still some electrolyte inside the battery, so when the carbon rod is removed, it will usually be wet and
04:10have some solution stuck to it.
04:11So, before continuing, I'll wipe it thoroughly and make sure the carbon rod is completely dry.
04:17Once it's completely dry, I'll use a piece of sandpaper to sharpen one end of the carbon rod.
04:20I'll slowly sand it down until I get a moderately sharp point.
04:23Now, I'll remove all the carbon rod.
