00:00The life of a jazz musician is a difficult life
00:03because you want to play, you want to be,
00:07you want to get to the inner spirit
00:09and sometimes you drink or you use drugs
00:12or you smoke a lot, you do all these things
00:14to try to get the spirit out.
00:18So a jazz musician, it's a difficult existence
00:25and a lot of the great people
00:27that I've known and that in history
00:31they kind of overindulge
00:34and they never sort of are able to balance
00:38their musical life with their personal life.
00:45Maybe it's not necessary to do that.
00:50That's another question, I don't know.
00:53But I'd like to see young musicians
00:57coming up that don't smoke
00:59and that don't drink to excess
01:02and don't use drugs
01:03and don't sort of debilitate themselves.
01:07I think that's where we should go.
01:12I think that's what guys should be doing.
01:14I don't think you have to drink
01:16and use drugs to play good jazz.
01:19But that's been the model for so long
01:23that a lot of guys get caught up in that.
01:28What do you know?
01:28What do you know?
01:28What do you know?
01:28Gracias.
