00:13remember when an Apple event actually surprised us there was a time when you could sit through an
00:19Apple event keynote and genuinely have absolutely no idea what was going to come next today months
00:26of leaks renders and rumors have made sure that we know almost everything before Tim Cook walks out
00:32on stage or will it be even Tim Cook this time that's the question as Apple gets ready for its
00:38big event on the 9th of September we are asking the big question over here as the internet really
00:42killed the surprise of the Apple launch and despite all of the leaks what can we expect Apple to unveil
00:49at this year's event we'll talk about that also this week we revisit Samsung's most expensive
00:54foldable phone the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra which costs 20 000 rupees more than the earlier launched Fold 7
01:01but does it actually offer that extra experience we put the two side by side and try to find out
01:07and finally Tata is bringing some serious tech to its new electric SUV we get you a first look of
01:13the new Tata Curve EV and what it has to offer for new buyers I'm Cyrus your host and you're
01:19watching
01:19the tech today show let's start with the big tech headlines of the week
01:27Anthropic has launched its new Claude Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1 AI models bringing big upgrades to
01:35coding and research tasks the update cuts usage costs sharply while scoring record results in complex
01:41computer programming and problem solving Anthropic says the new tools will help software developers
01:47build and test software much faster
01:56New York City has officially banned AI chatbots for students across public schools from kindergarten
02:01through eighth grade Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that young students needed direct human connection
02:08and classroom peer collaboration rather than automated chatbots
02:19and Uber is laying off 3,300 employees cutting about 10 percent of its global staff in a major business
02:26shake-up around 250 employees will be affected in India the ride-hailing company plans to put the money
02:33money saved directly into self-driving cars and robotaxi fleets Uber says the big push into autonomous
02:40vehicles will define the future of its ride network
02:51all right it's that time of the year again when Apple fans all over the world go absolutely crazy in
02:58anticipation of the new iPhone the big launch is on the 9th of September at the Steve Jobs Theater in
03:04Cupertino but here's the strange part somehow the noise and the fanfare around all of this kind of feels
03:10low for me look at the internet right now almost everything Apple is expected to announce has already
03:16been talked about leaked dissected and debated online for months now that element of surprise that Apple
03:23events had is slowly dying and honestly I liked it when the CEOs and the Apple heads walked out
03:30on the stage and spoke to the audience now everything is played on a giant screen and it's no fun
03:36I've
03:37been there I've experienced that but since there is anticipation around what Apple will launch
03:41we have curated a list that talks about everything that you can expect at this year's Apple event so
03:48let's give you a teaser on the tech today show
03:57remember the iPhone 15 months before Apple unveiled it CAD renders had already shown the dynamic island
04:04coming to the entire lineup USB-C had been leaked even the move away from lightning port was hardly a
04:12surprise by the time Apple finally confirmed it on stage
04:22then came the iPhone 16 well before the launch we were looking at leaked prototypes and case molds
04:29showing a completely different camera layout reports described a new capture button what it would do
04:36and even how it would respond to pressure and touch it seems that has become the new reality of an
04:44Apple launch
04:46serial leaksters on X like Evan Blass and platforms like Apple track have built an entire ecosystem around finding these
04:54clues early
04:55and that brings us to the bigger question over here how does all of this information get out of Apple's
05:01headquarters in the first place
05:03if Apple is trying to keep all of these products secret where exactly all of these leaks coming from the
05:10answer is just not one person or one rogue employee
05:13it's a much bigger network and the iPhone has to travel through all of this before it even reaches the
05:22Apple stage
05:26an iPhone may be designed in Cupertino but it is built across a global network of suppliers and manufacturers
05:36and long before the launch accessory makers need the dimensions of the new phone to prepare cases screen protectors and
05:45other products
05:46that means cat drawings and technical specifications have to move beyond Apple
05:54then there are the factories producing the individual components like cameras displays chips
06:01housing and also testing the finished devices
06:05every one of these steps creates another point where information can escape
06:10sometimes it is a cad file sometimes a component and sometimes a photograph from a production line
06:20and in 2026 even a suppliers own systems can become a source of leaks
06:27a recent breach at data electronics exposed confidential information linked to the iphone 18 pro
06:33including component and supplier data and images from testing
06:40Apple can control what it reveals
06:42but it cannot completely control everyone who has to build the product
06:50so what exactly are we expecting at this year's event
06:55the thing that's confirmed by the way is a new ceo we are seeing john turnus for the first time
07:00change in apple's product strategy and also a bigger push towards on-device artificial intelligence
07:06so here's what to expect at apple's biggest event of the year
07:14at the top of the lineup will be the iphone 18 pro and pro max
07:20the big change under the hood is expected to be apple's new a20 pro chip built on tsnc's 2 nanometer
07:27process the smaller process should bring better efficiency and thermal management while also giving
07:33apple more headroom for running ai directly on the device on the outside the changes could be more
07:43subtle the dynamic island is expected to get smaller giving the display a little more room
07:50but the bigger upgrade could be in the camera
07:56the iphone 18 pro max is rumored to get variable aperture in the main camera something that could
08:03give users more control over light exposure and depth of field without having to rely entirely on software
08:14and then there is the product expected that could steal the show the foldable iphone ultra
08:20data reports suggest a book style foldable with a roughly 7.7 inch inner display and a 5.3 inch
08:27cover screen
08:30apple is also expected to focus heavily on the hinge and the crease two areas that have defined the foldable
08:37experience so far and the foldable could make better use of that larger screen with multi-window features
08:44designed around productivity the apple watch is also due for a refresh with the series 12 and ultra 4 expected
08:58to bring updated sensors more satellite connectivity and new material options but there is one interesting
09:05change to the launch itself
09:09the big surprise could be the standard iphone 18 not being a part of this september event that may be
09:17because apple could be splitting the lineup keeping this launch focused on its most expensive models
09:23while moving the regular iphone 18 and the 18e to a spring launch
09:32and finally there is the biggest change that has nothing to do with hardware that's tim cook into the
09:39role of executive chairman with john turnus taking over as ceo and stepping onto the apple stage for the
09:46first time and that could be the beginning of a very different chapter for apple
09:54the good news is i will be representing india today at the event on the 9th of september
10:00in cooper tino and will be bringing all of you all of the action from apple park next week so
10:06keep
10:06watching tech today by the way for all of the updates and the surprises i understand maybe fewer but there
10:12is still a lot to watch out for
10:24the electric car market in india is getting crowded and simply having a big battery is no longer enough
10:32buyers are now looking at the entire technology pack
10:36and whether these features actually make everyday driving easier
10:43and that is where tata is positioning the new curve ev but data has used the higher variant
10:50to add a lot more technology and comfort features
10:56so tata is trying to do something very interesting with the newly launched curve
10:59ev and the interesting bit is that you get the suv experience with elements of a coupe now the confusion
11:05in terms of variants has been taken care of because this one is only available in two trims the 55
11:11kilowatt hour this one is the accomplished version starts at 16.99 lakhs whereas this one is the
11:17empowered version with all of the bells and whistles and all of the tech loaded into this car so the
11:23question i want to ask is with you paying all of that money what is the extra that you are
11:27getting
11:28should you go with the accomplished or the empowered version here's a first look at both of these on the
11:33tech today show the curve ev series x uses a 55 kilowatt hour battery bundled with a lifetime high voltage
11:40battery warranty for eligible private buyers which is meant to address one of the biggest concerns
11:46around owning an ev for the long term there's this one question i'm sure a lot of people would be
11:53wanting
11:53to know the answer to the range how much does this really give now this range anxiety is something
11:58that a lot of people struggle with but on paper i'll tell you this one has a 55 kilowatt hour
12:04battery
12:04and gives a claim of 500 kilometers over 500 kilometers but in realistic terms you can expect
12:10somewhere around 400 which we will test out later and let you know the final numbers but on paper this
12:15one again has 123 kilowatt electric motor that produces 215 newton meters of torque that's a lot of numbers so
12:23yes for city driving i feel these numbers are great maybe if you want to take it even for a
12:29longer
12:29drive that 500 number definitely plays at the back of your mind and might give you some extra confidence
12:36that 400 kilometer figure is much more useful to understand what the car could potentially deliver
12:42in everyday conditions although real world range will still depend on speed temperature traffic driving
12:50style and air conditioning use and that is an important point with evs
12:57the cabin is where tata has really tried to make the curve ev feel like a tech product
13:03even the lower accomplished x variant gets two 10.25 inch displays one for infotainment
13:10and one for the digital driver cockpit
13:16the driver's display can also show navigation through what tata calls driver view maps putting
13:21key navigation information closer to the driver's line of sight and then there is the 360 degree 3d
13:28surround view camera with a blind spot view monitor
13:35now these are the kind of features i would actually call practical
13:39the empowered x variant takes the tech further with a larger 12.3 inch touchscreen and a nine speaker jbl
13:46audio
13:46system
13:50you also get a gesture activated powered tailgate plenty of boot space wireless connectivity and even v2l and v2v
13:58capability now india especially the northern belt is a hot hot place and i personally want ventilated
14:04seats on my car but unfortunately you have to pay extra for that however in the curve ev you are
14:10getting passive ventilation as a default which is a new technology that tata says they have introduced
14:16for the first time in india but how does that tech really work let me tell you
14:24the passive ventilation works through the breathable construction of the seat allowing air to move
14:29freely around the body rather than trapping heat so while it doesn't actively blow air like a ventilated
14:37seat it helps reduce heat build up and keeps you more comfortable especially on longer drives
14:47additional features like ambient lighting and entertainment apps are more about making the cabin feel premium
14:53the biggest tech upgrade on the empowered x however is arguably safety it gets level 2 adas with 20
15:02functions including adaptive cruise control lane keep assist blind spot detection forward collision warning
15:09and autonomous emergency braking
15:14at a starting price of 16.99 lakh the curve ev enters a much more competitive part of the ev
15:21market
15:22the maruti suzuki evitara starts slightly lower at around 16.19 lakh and offers a choice of battery packs
15:29with the larger 16.1 kilowatt hour battery claiming up to 543 kilometers of range
15:39then there is also the hyundai creta electric which starts at roughly 18 lakh rupees it costs more
15:45but hyundai brings the established creta name a familiar suv format
15:50and a strong focus on cabin tech and convenience distinctive design a long-range battery pack plenty of useful
15:59tech and importantly a starting price that undercuts several of these new arrivals
16:05and that ultimately comes down to what you value more range technology comfort performance or simply the way the car
16:15looks
16:17so after a couple of minutes with the curve ev i feel that it is indeed a practical solution now
16:23there are
16:23competitors in the market that do not offer such features at such a price range and that kind of an
16:29advantage i feel the consumers would really like the fact that it is offering you lifetime battery warranty and
16:34also a 55 kilowatt hour battery with all of the tech loaded inside of it i think it's something that
16:40you
16:41can definitely consider but let us know what do you think about the newly launched curve ev and whether
16:46you would buy a car like that i'm waiting to hear from you
17:01there is an awkward question i just have to ask about the newly launched samsung foldable device the
17:08fold 8 ultra if the previously launched fold 7 is good enough why should i spend almost 20 000 rupees
17:15extra
17:16to buy a new fold 8 ultra
17:21so if you are looking to buy a premium foldable smartphone in 2026 watch this video because i will
17:28save you from making a terrible mistake how watch the segment for that
17:37now i'll be honest when the fold 8 ultra was launching i was expecting some of the elements to
17:42look a bit different from the earlier launched fold 7 but when i saw the device most of the elements
17:48were exactly the same except the color the fold 8 ultra is thinner at just 4.1 mm when unfolded
17:57compared to the 4.2 mm on the fold 7. both weigh 215 grams samsung has made the new phone
18:09thinner
18:09and the hinge feels a little more refined
18:14there is however one small design change i really like the frame on the 8 ultra is slightly indented
18:21which gives your fingers a better grip when you're trying to open the phone
18:25it sounds like a tiny thing but when you're opening this phone dozens of times a day
18:30that little bit of extra grip makes the experience nicer samsung has also introduced flex titanium
18:36with titanium layers underneath the display to strengthen the screen structure and the hinge
18:42itself has been redesigned as the armor flex hinge so structurally the fold 8 is a refined foldable
18:51but visually and design wise it looks almost similar to the fold 7
18:59the fold 8 ultra retains the large 8 inch foldable screen but samsung has pushed brightness up to 3000 nits
19:06peak
19:10there is also a low reflection or anti-reflective treatment that makes the noticeable difference
19:15when you are using the phone outdoors or under harsh lighting but here's the thing the fold 7 already
19:22has a very good display and samsung has just built over it so when you're watching movies using
19:27instagram and using your multitasking applications on either displays the experience i would say is
19:34almost the same now under the hood samsung has obviously made changes with the new fold 8 ultra with
19:41the new snapdragon 8 elite gen 5 processor new gpu and android 17 right out of the box
19:49in my testing the fold 7 scored these benchmarks in geekbench and antutu while the fold 8 ultra managed
19:57these scores that's almost an 8.4 improvement in single core performance and a rather substantial 29
20:05jump in antutu interestingly the multi-core was actually about 1.4 percent lower on the fold 8 ultra
20:12in my test and this is important because numbers can sometimes make an upgrade look bigger than it
20:18actually feels while these are some thick numbers i understand on paper it doesn't really change the
20:24way you use the phone on a daily basis because these numbers tell you a story and the story is
20:30that the
20:31performance hasn't radically changed here
20:38in everyday use opening apps switching between windows multitasking editing photos and browsing
20:43the fold 8 ultra feels extremely fast but so does the fold 7
20:51and one ui on a foldable gives you this large canvas for multi-window multitasking
20:57and also the flexibility to move between the cover and the main display
21:02take a look at some of these samples we clicked on both of these devices
21:07while many elements look similar the ultra wide picks do stand out on the 8 ultra
21:15so overall it is a powerful phone in fact it's one of the most powerful foldable phones that you can
21:20find in the market right now but again you won't be mining bitcoin on this smartphone you'll be using
21:26basic applications like whatsapp email instagram or maybe even you know making videos but that's about it
21:32so all of that power kind of seems overkill
21:37the fold 8 ultra retains the 200 megapixel main camera and the 10 megapixel telephoto sensor
21:43but the ultra wide camera has been upgraded from the fold 7's 12 megapixel sensor to 50 megapixels now
21:51and that's a welcome upgrade because the fold 7 already has one of the best camera systems
21:56you can get on a foldable device
22:03samsung hasn't reinvented the camera system here it's just taken something that was already very good
22:08and made it better
22:11and this is probably where i would say that the fold 8 ultra does have a slight advantage not because
22:16the
22:16entire camera system has changed but because of that ultra wide sensor which has more megapixels it does
22:22make photography a little bit better so if you want the absolute latest in terms of the camera then
22:27the folded ultra is a better choice now this is where i really have to commend the engineering on the
22:348
22:35ultra because this thin phone comes with a 5000 mAh battery inside of it with bundle 45 watt charging and
22:43that kind of battery in a foldable like that is really impressive
22:50and thanks to that i was able to get a day and a half of battery life with average use
22:55so you can expect the same
23:02and for a phone that has to power two displays including that massive 8 inch screen this is pretty
23:08impressive but the charging numbers tell even a more interesting story in 30 minutes the fold 8 ultra
23:14reached 59 percent while the fold 7 managed 54 and a full charge took me 67 minutes on the fold
23:228 ultra
23:22compared to 86 minutes on the fold 7. so despite having a battery that's 13.6 percent larger the fold
23:308 ultra gets to a full charge roughly 22 percent faster that is an upgrade you actually notice
23:38because unlike benchmark scores these kind of numbers really matter because if you're plugging
23:43in the charger and getting the phone charged at a faster rate and you're also able to get better
23:48backup on the fold 8 ultra i feel that kind of an upgrade really matters and now coming to the
23:55verdict and you should hear this part very carefully the z8 ultra is priced at 1 lakh 95 000 rupees
24:03in
24:04india and for that kind of pricing there are so many options out there relatively lesser and getting
24:09you much better specs now in comparison the z fold 7 over here costs 20 000 lesser
24:18and absolutely i would agree that the z fold ultra is an absolutely better phone but after using both
24:24phones for a while i keep coming back to that one thought the experience is remarkably similar on
24:31both these devices so if you're someone who already owns a fold 7 i do not think that there is
24:38enough
24:38for an upgrade over here but if you are someone who wants a brand new foldable device that to a
24:44samsung
24:45foldable then only the fold 8 ultra makes sense over here and also you should be comfortable enough
24:51to spend that extra 20 000 rupees and get the extra features on this one because the fold 7 i
24:58feel
24:58for 20 000 lesser and you might even get a better deal online if you search thoroughly
25:02then this phone is actually a very good deal
25:08remember next week is a mega mega episode because i will be right there at apple park getting you all
25:15of
25:15the latest from the biggest tech launch of the year a first look at the new iphones all the new
25:21accessories and a whole lot more so please stay tuned also more updates from the launch coming on the
25:28india today and the business today network so don't forget to catch all of that i'll see you next weekend
25:33same time right here on the tech today show from the big apple park stay curious take care
