00:00U.S. President Donald Trump's envoys met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
00:04on their first ever visit to Kyiv on Sunday.
00:09As Washington renewed its efforts to end Russia's four-and-a-half-year war in Ukraine.
00:13We came here and I think we really feel good about what has happened in the conversations
00:19in Moscow and now the conversations here.
00:22Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived from Moscow after meeting
00:27with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
00:29But with President Putin we went through a lot of the ideas that hadn't worked to date
00:32and we really tried to think about what would the elements be that are needed for this durable peace.
00:39Previous rounds of U.S.-mediated peace talks encouraged by President Donald Trump,
00:43who campaigned on a promise to quickly end the war, have yielded few results.
00:47We sent them over to see whether or not we can get something done and there may be a good
00:52chance that we'll do it.
00:53He suggested on Friday that the U.S. had a fresh proposal, though he did not elaborate.
00:59Zelensky said it seemed likely the war that Russia launched in 2022 would continue into the winter ahead.
01:06He said Ukraine was counting on a winter package of aid
01:09and that he pressed Witkoff and Kushner to provide both air defense and energy support.
01:14I can't guarantee that there will be success.
01:17In previous talks, the sides remained far apart on key issues,
01:22including the future of the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbas.
01:26Russia has demanded Ukraine's withdrawal from an entrenched belt of towns that it still controls there.
01:31But Kiev has refused, reasoning it can still hold on.
01:35I'll see you next time.
