00:31His father, Mohamed Felimal Mohamed Sulana, said a UITM officer called at about 11pm on
00:38Friday to say Fadlan was weak and had been taken to Janka Hospital before being referred
00:44to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Termerlo.
00:47Mohamed described Fadlan as a healthy and avid athlete who had trained extensively for the
00:53event and previously won awards with his team in two editions of the competition.
00:58Mahran Police Chief Superintendent Wong Kim-wai said Fadlan's condition deteriorated after
01:05his oxygen level dropped.
01:07A post-mortem has been conducted, with the findings pending laboratory tests.
01:12Wong said eight other students, four men and four women, also experienced breathing difficulties
01:18during the incident and were taken to Janka Hospital.
01:21Two were admitted to the ICU after their oxygen levels dropped but remained stable, while the
01:28other six were also stable and under observation.
01:31The KKEC Duathlon, involving 521 UITM students from across the country except Sarawak, began on
01:41September 2 and is scheduled to end on September 8.
01:44It comprises an 8-kilometre run, 20-kilometre cycling segment and 10-kilometre Mara-Lasak event.
