00:30Okay, if I do all the right things or the big things, then at one point, you know, when I
00:36retire or when I'm done, you know, life will be good.
00:41If you think that way, you'll never get there.
00:45You have to make sure life is good every step of the way.
00:49That doesn't mean it's always easy and it's always happy.
00:52On the contrary, it means there'll be really, really difficult times you go through.
00:56But if you figure out that for me, that the lesson I learned from my parents' examples was that having
01:05a positive impact on the world really made me happy.
01:11That's why I chose to become a school teacher.
01:14That's why I was, you know, I spent years as an environmental activist fighting for a better environment.
01:20That's why, you know, I did all sorts of different things to try and help people and support people.
01:25But because I realized that's really, really satisfying for me.
01:30So now that I've, you know, I did 10 years of service, almost 20 years in politics, 20 years of
01:39service in politics, 10 years as prime minister.
01:43That part of my life isn't over.
01:45I'm not saying, okay, now I gave, now I can just be selfish and have for me.
01:50I learned that for me to be fulfilled, to be happy, I have to be challenged, I have to be
01:57learning.
01:58But I also have to figure out how to have a positive impact on the world around me.
02:02Which is why, you know, being here with all of you young people who are extraordinary leaders already, is really,
02:09really exciting to me.
02:10This is something I'm loving to do.
02:20You do things that fulfill you in your core.
02:26And the better you are at figuring out what that is, what the things you really like.
02:32Do you really like solving problems in the abstract?
02:36Do you really like helping people?
02:37Do you really like building something, inventing something, creating something?
02:42Like, what are the things that really make you most exhausted at the end of the day, but also most
02:50satisfied with the day you just spent?
02:54Those are the things that we need to figure out.
02:58And that's what I'm getting to do now.
03:01But one of the things I discovered was going from politics, being a world leader, a G7 leader, to then
03:10not being that, was not as hard as everyone thought it would be.
03:19And everyone told me it was going to be.
03:22Yes, there's a lot of busyness and a lot of great friends, great people I work with that I no
03:27longer work with.
03:28But I'm still able to find those moments of impact.
03:32I'm not making decisions that deeply impact the lives of 40 million people every day, as I did for 10
03:40years.
03:42But I'm having an impact in the world in a way that fits the moment in life that I'm in.
03:49And that's why, when you have a youth conference like this, the temptation of speakers to be up here on
04:01stage to tell you all that you are the leaders of tomorrow, oro, oro, is very tempting.
04:16Except, it's the wrong thing.
04:21I don't want anyone to tell you that you are leaders of tomorrow.
04:29Because leaders of tomorrow is kind of conditional.
04:38If you do your homework, if you eat your broccoli, if you are good to your parents, if you listen
04:46to your boss, if you play the game the right way, if you work and advance in your career, then
04:55one day you might be a leader.
05:01Don't let anyone tell you that that's what you have to do.
05:06Because we don't need you to be leaders 10 years from now or 30 years from now.
05:12We need you to be the leaders you already are right now.
05:19What you do, what you do as members of society, as people in learning, people in communities, challenging things, pushing
05:39back against the status quo,
05:40how you vote, how you spend your free time, how you choose to purchase, what you choose to do,
05:49doing that all mindfully on the impact that you are having with your choices makes you a leader right now.
06:00And we need that.
06:03We need you not to wait until someday when you're running a bank or a country to be able to
06:09step up and finally change the world.
06:11You need to understand that the world changes when all of you decide that it will change and take actions
06:21to do that.
06:23That, for me, is the absolute key.
06:27So, whether I was a world leader a few years ago, I am not now, I still have a really
06:34important impact in the world
06:36just because I'm a human being who makes choices, who has influence, who talks to his friends, who talks to
06:42people,
06:42who learns from people, who challenges himself.
06:44These are things that we can all do.
06:48And the biggest why that is out there, that is being pushed on society by the technology giants who are
07:03controlling the internet
07:04and creating AI by governments in some parts of the world that are very much...
