A dramatic rescue operation in Nepal has delivered a stunning breakthrough after two workers were found alive nine days after being trapped deep inside a hydropower tunnel following devastating flash floods and a glacial and mountain collapse. Sanjay Shah and Kabir Maharjan were rescued from around 170 meters underground at the Trishuli 3A hydropower project, where rescuers discovered a stable air pocket containing breathable oxygen and trapped water. Shah was reported to be in stable condition, while Maharjan was taken to intensive care. The remarkable rescue has renewed hope for at least 35 more workers who may still be trapped underground as rescue teams race against time.
