00:00I am Kunum, Lord of the Flood, and Guardian of the First Cataract at Elephantine.
00:06With the head of a ram and the body of a man, the ancient Egyptians believed I shaped every
00:12human being on my potter's wheel, giving them form before birth.
00:17My worship began at Elephantine Island, near Aswan, where my temple stood since the Middle
00:22Kingdom, alongside my wife Sati and daughter Anuket.
00:25There, priests once mummified sacred rams in my honour, adorning them with golden headdresses
00:32before laying them to rest in stone coffins.
00:35Centuries later, my greatest sanctuary rose in Esna, fifty kilometres south of Luxor, its
00:43construction begun under Thutmose III.
00:46That temple's hypostyle hall still stands nine metres below the modern town, its ceiling carved
00:52with the stars, the Dog Star, and the constellation of Orion.
00:57Both temples still stand today, witnesses to thousands of years of devotion along the Nile.
