00:04A new name is reportedly emerging in the Trump administration's search for the next Secretary
00:10of the Army. Congressman Brian Mast, a combat wounded U.S. Army veteran, is reportedly under
00:18consideration for the powerful post following Dan Driscoll's resignation. According to a report
00:24citing two U.S. officials, Mast is on a shortlist being considered for the position. But this remains
00:31unconfirmed. There has been no official nomination announced. And Mast is not the only name being
00:39discussed. Former Army officer Sean Parnell is also reportedly under consideration, while Derek
00:46Anderson has relevant military and congressional experience. So why is Brian Mast attracting
00:53attention? Mast served in the U.S. Army as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist. In 2010,
01:02while serving in Afghanistan, he stepped on an IED while clearing a path. He lost both legs and a
01:09finger. He later received several military decorations, including the Bronze Star and Purple
01:15Heart, before medically retiring as a Staff Sergeant. But there is another part of Mast's background
01:22that is now drawing scrutiny, his connection to Israel. After his recovery and studies at Harvard,
01:30Mast volunteered through SAR-EL, a civilian program supporting the Israeli Defense Forces
01:36in non-combat roles. He has also become one of the strongest pro-Israel voices in Congress. Today,
01:45Mast chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee. That background could become especially significant
01:51given the current geopolitical environment and the U.S. military's ongoing focus on Iran,
01:58Israel, and the wider Middle East. Now, this potential appointment comes at a turbulent moment for the
02:06Army. Dan Driscoll, who became Army Secretary in February 2025, has reportedly submitted his resignation
02:14after months of friction inside the Pentagon. Driscoll had focused heavily on Army modernization,
02:22drones, and military transformation. His departure comes as the Army faces broader leadership challenges,
02:29including a gap at the top military command level. So what happens next? The Trump administration
02:37is reportedly weighing several names, with Mast among those being discussed. But until the White House
02:44formally announces a nominee, this remains a reported shortlist, not a confirmed appointment.
02:51And if Mast is ultimately chosen, his combat experience, congressional role, and strong ties to
02:58Israel, could make his appointment one of the most closely-watched Army leadership decisions in Washington.
