00:00Now viewers, we're learning of a massive hospital tragedy in Andhra Pradesh as we speak.
00:05It's a child who's died after being given malaria tablet.
00:0952, including 47 kids, have been admitted after the malaria pill.
00:13Seven-year-old tribal girl dies of chloroquine tablet, is what we're given to understand.
00:19It's the anti-malaria drive that goes completely wrong and backfires in Polavaram in Andhra Pradesh.
00:26A seven-year-old tribal girl has lost her life just hours after she was administered the malaria tablet,
00:33while 53 other villagers, including 47 children amongst them, were admitted to hospitals in Polavaram district.
00:39Now, according to the Polavaram district collector K. Dinesh Kumar, one girl identifies Madhavi Jamuna has died.
00:45Officials are monitoring the situation.
00:46These are the preliminary details that we have gathered about the very incident, but it's extremely concerning.
00:52And also brings to highlight the negligence of the hospital administration in, in fact, administering what is one of their
01:00basic work there,
01:02which is giving medicines to the patients.
01:04That has been administered wrongly, costing a little child, a seven-year-old girl, her life.
01:11And 53 other villagers in this very drive, anti-malaria drive, have also been affected from the same.
01:1847 out of them, 53 of those villagers affected, 47 out of that 53 are children itself,
01:24who've now fallen severely ill because of these anti-malaria tablets.
01:28We have Apoorva joining us on the broadcast, back with us on the broadcast with more details on this.
01:32Apoorva, what exactly happened here?
01:34What are you learning about the administration of the medicine?
01:38Was it pure negligence?
01:40They didn't understand what the dosage?
01:42What was it?
01:47What we're getting to learn is that this was supposed to be a pre-emptive measure that the health officials
01:53were taking
01:54after cases of malaria were reported in that region.
01:58And following this, there was this particular tablet there, chloroquine tablet that was administered
02:05to the persons there who had suffered from malaria, as well as a pre-emptive measure that was taken as
02:11well.
02:11And unfortunately, in this, what we are learning from officials is that one person had gotten a reaction
02:17from that particular tablet, which is why they had suffered some kind of an allergic reaction.
02:23Unfortunately, this child had also passed away.
02:25But there are several others, close to over 35 members, who were admitted to this,
02:31and they had also suffered a similar kind of a reaction, which is why they were immediately rushed to the
02:36hospital as well.
02:37What we are getting to learn from district officials is that they are continuously monitoring the situation
02:42as these people who had been administered the tablet there, they have been receiving treatment as well.
02:47For now, health officials from this region also go ahead, from Polovarum also go ahead and state that they are
02:54all stable,
02:55their condition is stable as well.
02:57And the Pradesh Chief Minister, Narachandra Babu Naidu, has also taken stock of the situation.
03:01He has also gotten in touch with the officials there, the district administration also going ahead
03:07and taking point on what had happened.
03:09And in fact, an inquiry has also been launched into this to see where there had been a fall to
03:15be it
03:15in terms of the health officials administering the tablet.
03:18Has there been any kind of discrepancy in terms of procurement or administration of the tablet?
03:23All of these measures that are being looked into right now.
03:26But for now, officials do state that everything has been sorted out and that people are receiving treatment.
03:33There is nothing to worry.
03:35The rest of them are being surveilled and are being treated for the same.
03:40Right, Apoorva.
03:41Thank you for putting that into context.
03:43It's indeed worrisome when medical faculty was supposed to be doing basic jobs,
03:52providing basic services, which they're trained for, which is administering medicines to patients,
03:57that goes drastically wrong to this scale.
04:00It really becomes worrisome.
04:02And with this incident, we will keep a very close track of how things pan out
04:06with those 53 others who have severely also been affected.
04:09So, let's get started.
04:09I don't know.
