00:00Newcastle United may have not had the sort of summer they planned for.
00:03I mean, which team would be comfortable losing three of their starting 11 in the space of a few months,
00:07as well as their long-serving manager.
00:09But that's in the past now.
00:11Matthias Jaista is the new gaffer on Tyne's side,
00:13and I have a sneaky suspicion he'll want to sign at least one of his former players.
00:17From midfield engines to flying full-backs and a few honourable mentions along the way,
00:21here are the players that Newcastle could sign this summer or next.
00:27First, though, to the coach.
00:29The German.
00:29Matthias Jaista, the man everybody wants to know more about on Tyne's side.
00:33Prior to his appointment as Eddie Howe's replacement,
00:35you'd have been hard-pushed to find a Newcastle fan who knew much about him.
00:38Still only 38, he had a modest playing career of his own,
00:41winning two promotions with Hoffenheim,
00:43before eventually hanging up his boots and turning to coaching.
00:46Like many German coaches before him, he was schooled in the Red Bull set-up,
00:49managing feeder club FC Liefering in Austria's 2nd Division,
00:53before taking the top job at Red Bull Salzburg.
00:55He also reportedly took his learnings from Ralf Rangnick,
00:59who, Man Utd's stint aside, it's not a bad mentor to have at all.
01:03In Salzburg, he won a domestic league and cup double in 2022,
01:06as well as the league title the following year.
01:09However, in all fairness, the Austrian Bundesliga isn't exactly a fair fight most of the time.
01:13Red Bull Salzburg have a huge networking and financial advantage over the other teams in the division,
01:18kind of in a similar way that Celtic and Rangers do in the Scottish Premiership.
01:22Newcastle supporters are, understandably then, interested to know more of Yeister's coaching credentials,
01:27especially considering his only other senior managerial role
01:30has been his head coach of Saudi Arabian club Al-Ali for the past three years.
01:35Granted, again, he's won two Asian Champions Leagues,
01:38but financial advantages have undoubtedly played a big part in that.
01:41The benefit to Newcastle of Yeister having been at the helm of two wealthy clubs in the past five years
01:46is that he's had the opportunity to coach some very good players.
01:50And when you combine this with his tactical style,
01:52it means the man himself is an attractive prospect.
01:55High intensity pressing, good defensive structure,
01:58and attacking the final third with intent, it's all positive stuff.
02:01After all, in an interview with Give Me Sport,
02:04he said he often looked at the transitions Jurgen Klopp put into place with Liverpool,
02:07whilst liking how Pep Guardiola finds structure and balance.
02:11Find yourself producing a mix of football somewhere between those two,
02:14and you'll be doing all right, mate.
02:15But despite this all sounding very exciting for Newcastle fans,
02:18there isn't a guarantee that the squaddies and heritage can pull this off to the required degree.
02:23Are the midfielders he has left capable of playing incisive forward passes?
02:26Are the forwards able to coordinate the counterpress?
02:29How long will it take for the players to really get him and his style?
02:32Well, there's a good solution to all of these potential problems.
02:35Get the band back together in true Harry Redknapp signing Nico Crenshaw style.
02:39Here are a few players I think Newcastle should and might end up signing.
02:43Perhaps not this summer, but maybe next, if Jaesler is still around,
02:47because he's worked with them before.
02:53Firstly, and no outfield player featured more frequently for Jaesler at Salzburg
02:57than Austrian Nikolaus Siewald.
02:59He played 91 times, scoring 6 goals and providing 14 assists,
03:03so it's fair to say they're well acquainted with each other.
03:05He was the engine of Jaesler's midfield diamond,
03:08press-resistant and defensively tuned in.
03:10And now that Newcastle have lost both Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali this summer,
03:15the midfield lacks depth in the holding role in particular,
03:18which makes Siewald a candidate to rejoin his former boss.
03:21The 25-year-old is a regular for RB Leipzig
03:24and already has over 50 international caps at Austria,
03:26so most likely won't come cheap.
03:28But we're not talking Bruno or Tonali money here,
03:31so it's definitely an achievable deal if he's deemed someone that the club would like to bring in.
03:35The next player on the list is 26-year-old Umar Soley,
03:38another former Red Bull Salzburg player.
03:41Jaesler's defence was aggressive and operated a high line in Austria,
03:44which relied heavily on recovery speed.
03:46And if you're going to play a high line, you're going to need centre-backs,
03:49you can cover lots of ground quickly, and that's what Soley can do.
03:52He played 66 times under Jaesler, including the Champions League,
03:56which Salzburg gave as good as they got,
03:58despite going toe-to-toe with more equipped and experienced sides.
04:01From a Newcastle perspective, the club are going to need more signings like Malik Tior in the near future,
04:05that's for sure.
04:07Fabian Scher and Dan Byrne are into their mid-30s and don't have long left on their deals,
04:11and you wouldn't describe either as being especially, um, athletic.
04:15Soley is at Italian Serie A club Udinese these days,
04:18and what I'd describe as a very gettable player,
04:21because his contract there is up in 12 months.
04:23You think of what I'm thinking?
04:25On to the third player then, and it's one I could really see happening,
04:28and not just because there have already been links to Newcastle.
04:31Real Sociedad attacking midfielder Luka Suchic was a regular under Jaeser Salzburg during the 21-22 season,
04:37scored eight goals in the league as well.
04:39His time in Spain hasn't exactly been great,
04:41but there's precedent for players currently experiencing a lull,
04:44suddenly rediscovering their mojo when they reunited with a former coach
04:47who did get the best out of them.
04:50I don't expect Suchic to be that expensive either,
04:53because Real Sociedad's finances aren't great,
04:55and he's kind of a bit part player, so why wouldn't you want to cash in?
04:58If Jaeser's going to play a diamond midfield at Newcastle,
05:01Suchic is the sort of rotation option that can play at the tip of it,
05:04interchanging with Nick Valtomado,
05:05who may play as the supporting forward in a front two.
05:09Now, there's always talk of Tino Liveramento leaving St. James' Park,
05:13and his injury history makes it difficult to rely on him for an entire season.
05:16Added to that, Kieran Trippi has left the club,
05:18so the team is rather depleted in this area, purely from a personnel standpoint.
05:24Introducing Amar Dedic,
05:25the Benfica right-back recently linked with a move to the Toon.
05:28At this point, it's probably good to point out there's a written article online
05:30from our regular writer, Joe Donoghue,
05:33that tipped Dedic to join Newcastle before any links emerge.
05:36That's the reason we're bringing this up,
05:37because he's all about the credit, and that's pretty much it.
05:41He may have even already sighed by the time this video goes out,
05:44or whenever you're watching it.
05:45Ahead of the curve, that's what we are at 4-4-2.
05:47Sometimes, too much for our own good.
05:50This one, I think, is less likely to happen,
05:52but I'd love to see it happen.
05:54Mo Kamara is a proper little ball winner,
05:56and whenever he's been, he's always worked his socks off,
05:59kind of like an N'Golo Kante type player.
06:01Before owning a move to AS Monaco,
06:03Kamara was the midfield enforcer and defensive anchor of Jaif's 21-22 domestic double-winning Salzburg side.
06:09He played 43 games under the German,
06:11and was central to the team's success at home and in Europe.
06:14He's tenacious, always gets stuck in,
06:16and would instantly bolster Newcastle stability in the middle of the park,
06:20which, as previously discussed, is in need of some experience and steel.
06:25The two Nami have signed Aladji Bamba from Monaco and a £34 million deal already this summer,
06:30but I still think there's room to add Kamara or a player like him.
06:33He's 26, he's been playing in Qatar for the best part of two years,
06:37he's probably not going to have a better opportunity at a Premier League move,
06:40considering where he is now, than with the coach he won the League Cup double with.
06:44Go on, Mo, bell your agent.
06:46What's Qatar got to offer that the North East doesn't?
06:49Lastly, there are a few others that I'm going to put in the honourable mentions category,
06:52because while I think there's a decent likelihood,
06:54it's the ones I've covered earlier in this video that I think have a realistic chance
06:58of pulling on the black and white stripes in the near future.
07:00There's Enzo Milo, an attacking midfielder out there in Saudi,
07:04who was absolutely cracking for Stuttgart before heading to the Middle East.
07:08He's a good presser, which is good,
07:10because we've already seen in training videos released by Newcastle,
07:12the Isler is really focused on drilling that Gagin-pressing style into his players.
07:16There's Gabri Vega too, a Spanish playmaker who was a regular under the Isler at Al-Ali,
07:21before returning to Europe with FC Porto,
07:24although if Newcastle are going to sign anyone from Porto,
07:26I think it should be Victor Froholt, the Scandinavian Lampard.
07:29And for my last honourable mention, I'm going with Karim Konate,
07:32an Ivorian centre-forward, a diamond in the rough who's found the net on a regular basis in Austria,
07:37but hasn't really been tested outside of it.
07:40He wouldn't be coming to Newcastle to take the number nine shirt, fine,
07:43but as a backup, I could see it happening.
07:45He's 22 and would still have to prove himself in the Premier League,
07:48but averaging a goal every other game with Rebel Salzburg over the course of 100 appearances
07:52is decent enough.
07:54And I still was the one to give him his break.
07:56If he fancies returning the favour on the biggest club stage of them all,
07:59he knows where to go.
