00:00China's solar energy capacity has surpassed that of coal-fired power for the first time
00:06ever. According to China's National Energy Administration , China's installed solar
00:12power capacity reached 1.286 billion kilowatts as of the end of July this year. A statement
00:19from the NEA said, quote, for the first time, photovoltaic installed capacity surpassed
00:25coal-fired power becoming the largest power source category in China. The country's coal-fired power
00:33installed capacity stood just under solar at 1.285 billion kilowatts, the energy body said.
00:41Analysts say EU countries are trailing behind China when it comes to renewables,
00:46partly because China started their transition to clean energy much sooner.
00:52In 2023, China installed between 180 and 230 gigawatts of solar compared to 58 gigawatts
01:01in all European countries combined. China, the world's largest emitter of greenhouse
01:06gases that drive climate change, has pledged to peak carbon emissions by 2030
