📰 THE FULL STORY

Solana's Double Disinflation proposal, known as SGP-0002, passed with 67.0% support against a 66.67% requirement. The vote recorded 176.29M SOL in favor and 66.19M SOL against across 1,326 votes, at a 60.7% quorum.

The measure doubles Solana's disinflation rate from 15% to 30%. That change brings the network to its 1.5% issuance floor by 2029 instead of 2032, cutting roughly 18.9 million SOL from issuance over six years.

The finish was dramatic. Kraken, holding 8.92 million SOL in voting power, opposed the measure throughout the count before flipping at the last minute. Co-CEO Arjun Sethi stated that custodians should be conduits, not voices.

Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz had lobbied hard for the change and welcomed Kraken's reversal.

⬛ HOW THE CENTER COVERS IT
Center outlets frame this as a landmark on-chain governance moment where the outcome hinged on late validator behavior and a razor-thin margin. They foreground the precise numbers: a 67.0% result against a 66.67% requirement, Kraken's 8.92 million SOL flipping at the last minute, and the parallel passage of the Solana Constitution alongside the rejection of the Resource and Inclusion Fee. They center the tension over whether custodians should vote at all, quoting Arjun Sethi that custodians should be conduits, not voices. (CoinDesk, Decrypt)

⚠️ WHAT THEY AREN'T TELLING YOU
Beyond the headline win, the same vote settled two other proposals: validators ratified the Solana Constitution with 86.0% support and rejected the Resource and Inclusion Fee at 53.9% for, short of the two-thirds threshold. The debate exposed a governance fault line, with Kraken Co-CEO Arjun Sethi arguing custodians should be conduits, not voices, even as Kraken's own voting power decided the outcome. The change accelerates the disinflation timeline, hitting the 1.5% issuance floor by 2029 rather than 2032 and removing roughly 18.9 million SOL from issuance over six years.

🌐 WHAT THE INTERNET IS SAYING

@crypto_banter noted that SGP-0002 passed with about 67% of decisive stake voting yes. The change doubles the yearly disinflation rate from 15% to 30% and moves the network's 1.5% long-term inflation target to around 2029 instead of 2032.
