00:01The Icelandic public expressed mixed opinions after their country voted no to
00:06resuming membership negotiations with the European Union. With opponents
00:11defeating the measure by a margin of 52.8 percent to 47.2 percent, the outcome
00:17was close but decisive. I'm a little bit relieved. It has been a little it has
00:24been quite aggressive this discussion but now I hope the opposing parties will
00:31find a way to make this community here in Iceland a little bit better just by
00:39using our own methods and of course those relations we have with Europe, America and Asia.
00:47And I think I myself I'm maybe in a kind of denial that this has happened. It's hard
00:55to it's hard to grasp that it's a no. Iceland's Prime Minister Kristjorn Frösterdottir
01:01who campaigned in support of the measure said she hoped the neck-to-neck result
01:05would not divide the nation.
