00:29two incompatible things, about how he was getting off that island.
00:32The friends who brought him gave a consistent account that around 3 p.m. he met a young woman,
00:37liked her, and decided to stay back and catch a ride home with one of the hundreds of other boats
00:41on that shoreline. Nolan was last confirmed seen at the northwest tip of the island at about 3 p.m.
00:46in blue swim trunks and sunglasses. Sheriff John Ledbetter, summarizing dozens of interviews,
00:51said he chose to stay on the island, assuming he'd ride back with someone else.
00:54Jackson County Chancery Judge Ashley Cole, whose son Warren was on that boat,
00:59stated publicly that Nolan made a decision to stay in return with another group and that her
01:03son had cooperated fully. Then the young woman spoke. According to Crump, she called Katie in
01:13family statements, said Nolan told her he was heading back to the boat with the boys.

03:54The body that reappeared. One of the biggest questions in the Nolan Wells case is where his
04:00body was found. Crews covered that shoreline on July 5 and found nothing. However, on the morning of July 6,
04:06he was floating in it. Boats, drones, volunteers, and deputies worked the island and the surrounding
04:11water throughout July 5. At about 8.45 the next morning, a park ranger found Nolan just off the
04:17northwestern tip, the same corner where he was last seen alive. Crump asked the obvious question,
04:22why would it not appear until July 6? There is a second half to this one. That island was nowhere
04:26near empty. A local charter captain estimated 500 to 800 boats around it that day.
04:32I mean, roughly, probably 2 to 3, maybe even 4,000 people out there. There were boats lined up off
04:39the island. And the stretch where their own group tied up was packed on its own. I mean, there was
04:45easily 1,000 people. It wasn't just us. A strong swimmer and elite-level athlete went under in the
04:51middle of that, and not one person reported seeing it happen. Both halves have answers, drowning victims

05:02and warm July water, so a body missed on day 1 appearing on day 2 is not unusual, and real

05:47The footage that changed everything. Thousands of people, thousands of cameras, and not one
05:53confirmed image of Nolan after 3 p.m. two videos are in circulation, and neither one settles
05:59anything. The first surfaced through TMZ, timestamp 2.23 p.m., a man stands on a back deck, bending
06:05over, reaching for something. His face never appears. The man who shot it took it to the sheriff's
06:10office anyway, because the swim trunks matched the pair Nolan wears in the July 4 photo everyone

07:52report. At 12.22 a.m., Christine Onsley called the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, having already
07:58called Ocean Springs Police and the Department of Marine Resources, because nobody was certain who held
