00:00We agree that Wally hardly speaks, yet we understand everything he feels.
00:04So how does Pixar manage to share all these emotions with us without words?
00:09I make videos about movies and TV series, if you like them, subscribe.
00:12Wally utters very few real words, yet we almost always understand everything he feels.
00:17To achieve this, Pixar enlisted the help of renowned sound designer Ben Burt.
00:22He is known for creating the sounds of Star Wars and especially those of R2-D2's lightsaber.
00:27or Darth Vader.
00:28So instead of using a standard voice, Burt recorded his own voice.
00:33Then he mixes it with electric motors, motor brains, electronic beeps and mechanical sounds.
00:39And we get a Wally who almost never speaks, but the audience understands his emotions thanks to the rhythm, to
00:46intonation and sound variations.
00:48We have the same example with the world of Nemo.
00:51The famous seagulls keep repeating the same thing without us really understanding what they mean.
00:55The teams that worked on the world of Nemo sought above all to reproduce the real-life behavior of
01:01these birds when they fight over food.
