00:58earth's core took this long to fight back 24 years ago blue sky studios released a film about three
01:05outcasts delivering a human baby across frozen tundra a mammoth who believed he was the last of
01:12his kind Diego a tiger sent to kill that baby who chose mercy instead and Sid a sloth whose loyalty
01:19outpaced his intelligence by several million years Ray Romano gave Manny a voice so deadpan
01:25it somehow contained an entire ocean of grief Dennis Leary made Diego sarcastic enough to hide his shame and
01:33warm enough to earn his redemption John Leguizamo built Sid from a vocal performance so physically
01:39committed that you could hear the sloth's entire body moving Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldanha directed from a
01:46story by Michael J Wilson and what emerged in March 2002 was a meditation on found family disguised as

02:32dinosaurs so long he became equal parts paleontologist and lunatic stealing dawn of the dinosaurs and
02:39making it the series most fearless chapter Peter Dinklad voice captain gut in 2012 with a piratical menace
02:47that gave continental drift a villain worth fearing rather than laughing at then came collision course in

03:02but the moment cosmic slapstick outweighed the emotional architecture that made the first three films matter
03:09Disney's purchase of Fox in 2019 placed the herd under stewardship that did not create them
03:15and the shuttering of blue sky studios in February 2021 ended the facility that gave these characters
03:21their visual souls the ice age adventures of buck wild reached Disney plus in January 2022 with peg returning
03:30but without the original voice cast a spin-off that convinced fans any theatrical sixth film without Romano
