00:00There was still real hope that this was a missing child who perhaps would be found safe and well
00:04and those hopes were very quickly dashed.
00:06The remarkable thing that was revealed was the CCTV video footage from the Strand Shopping Centre
00:13which actually showed James being led away by what appeared to be two older boys.
00:18There were these images which were inexplicable at that time
00:21but you couldn't help but be concerned to a degree.
00:25Nobody thought that what happened would have happened.
00:28We thought perhaps it was just two innocent boys trying to help him find his mum
00:32or taking him away to play or something silly like that.
00:34Without question it was a murder inquiry.
00:37The scene had been so horrific and the level of injuries that revealed he'd been hit by a train.
00:42This was genuinely unbelievable and remains really unbelievable.
00:47Not just here in Liverpool, not just here in England but around the world.
00:51People were absolutely horrified that a little boy could have been taken and murdered in these circumstances
00:56and one of the extraordinary things was that the little toddler reigns started to appear everywhere.
01:03I knew their names, I knew their addresses, I knew where they'd been arrested I believe before anybody else.
01:08I don't blame any of those people because how on earth could you have known
01:12that those little boys had such wickedness in their hearts.
01:16There was something in the psyche of those two boys.
01:19It's the big question that hung over the case then and has always hung over the case since.
01:26I don't think we will ever have a full and satisfactory answer to it.
01:29I hope to turn around right now!
