00:00Newcastle United's preparations for the new season have been dominated by change.
00:05Eddie Howe has left after almost five years in charge, and several high-throw-file players
00:10have also departed.
00:11With the Premier League season just around the corner, we wanted to know what supporters
00:16are expecting from their new-look side.
00:18So I went down the Bristol City game, which was dreadful, and the inevitable decision
00:26was made by Eddie or the club that he had to move on, and I think I was fairly convinced
00:32that he'd run his race, and then they've bought potentially some very talented kids,
00:40but they're not up to the task yet.
00:44I have good hopes for Jasler as the manager, but perhaps as a long-term rather short-term option,
00:50and I've seen two games this weekend that's convinced me that we're in trouble.
00:56It's a rebuild, and obviously the idea here, you know, the best manager I've had since
01:03Sir Bobby, obviously winning the first trophy in 70 years, you know, it has to be a rebuild.
01:12Infrastructure maybe gone upon a little bit since Amanda Stavey left.
01:17But yeah, it's just a genuine rebuild. I'm actually quite looking forward to the season.
01:22I just think the new manager looks so energetic and he can bring a bit more new confidence.
01:29The first league game is against Liverpool at St James' Park on Sunday, giving Jasler an immediate
01:34test in his first competitive campaign in charge. The German coach has said he wants Newcastle to
01:40play with an aggressive, intense and front-footed style, while also acknowledging the scale of the
01:45changes to the squad. Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon have all left this summer,
01:52following a period in which Newcastle had established themselves among the Premier League's leading clubs.
01:58And that was one brilliant thing that Eddie managed to do, certainly initially, was to bring the city,
02:04the fans, the club together as one and create the momentum. And he did some wonderful things.
02:11That isn't there at the moment, which I'm a bit disappointed with, although I haven't said that,
02:17I'm probably as guilty as that myself. But I think Jasler certainly needs as much help and support as he
02:24can get, not least from the fans, but also from the boardroom. And I'm not entirely sure he's getting
02:29the right backing.
02:30I think obviously the move players, obviously a lot of gelling, obviously players from last season,
02:34Nalanga, Whistler, a lot more to expect from them. Whistler's looked good so far in the preseason,
02:40he looked quite energetic. But yeah, it's mid-table I would expect.
02:46For now, the focus is on a new era under the new manager. Newcastle's first chance to show what
02:51that means on the pitch comes against Liverpool on Sunday and supporters begin to find out whether
02:56their hopes of the season will be matched by results.
