Emergency services were called to the River Lea near Hackney Marshes on Saturday evening. The boy was recovered by police divers and pronounced dead at the scene.

00:00A 12-year-old boy has died after being found in the River Lea in East London.
00:05The London Fire Brigade was called to reports of a person in the water
00:09near Hackney Marshes shortly after 6pm on Saturday evening.
00:14Firefighters searched the river with police before the boy was recovered by police divers.
00:20He was pronounced dead at the scene.
00:22Crews from several East London stations attended,
00:25alongside Specialist Fire Rescue Units and the Brigade's drone team.
00:30The Mayor of Hackney, Zoe Garbert, said she was heartbroken
00:34and asked people to respect the family's privacy.
00:37She said,
00:38All of our thoughts are with the child's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
