00:00Is it true the marriage happened at a young age?
00:02Yes.
00:03Isn't this wrong?
00:03No.
00:04How do you justify this?
00:06We don't.
00:06Instead, we will state the facts.
00:08First and foremost, there is a misconception that some Muslims believe Aisha was actually
00:1218 or 19 and not 6 or 9 when she got married to Prophet Muhammad .
00:15However, according to the most widely accepted scholarly opinion, this is incorrect.
00:20Our mother Aisha has herself mentioned in a sari hadith that she was 6 when the marriage
00:26happened and 9 when it completed.
00:28Some modern scholars suggest the age in the hadith might be interpreted differently given
00:32the reasons of linking some historical events.
00:34Binding with her sister's age might conclude her age being older when the marriage consummated.
00:39As you can see, I am not going too much in detail as we can determine the age of our
00:42mother Aisha
00:43by examining two hadiths.
00:44The first hadith indicates that she never met Khatija, the first wife of Prophet Muhammad .
00:49This suggests that she was either too young to have met Khatija or was born after Khatija's death.
00:54This implies that she was definitely under a decade old, given her marriage took place
00:584 years after Khatija's passing.
00:59As for the second, Aisha P. Spupaner says herself, I do not remember my parents believing
01:04any other religion than Islam.
01:06Meaning she was born after Islam, pointing her age to be younger, more accurate.
01:09Let's now come to the question, why?
01:12Like why?
01:13Right?
01:14I am not going to phrase the whole question.
01:16You get it.
01:16This marriage didn't happen based on desires.
01:19Can we agree on this?
01:20Yes?
01:21Thank you.
01:21Why?
01:22Again, I always say this, if you don't know the book, you can't judge its cover.
01:27I never said this by the way, but it's true.
01:29Prophet Muhammad lived in a time when women looked nothing more than a tool or an object.
01:33I'll show you now a clip from the movie The Message about Prophet Muhammad's time, peace
01:38be upon him, and the general mindset of people at that time.
01:40God made woman to be the proper companion of man.
01:43She is different, but equal.
01:45Equal!
01:47We buy them, feed them, clothe them, use them, discard them.
01:53Women equal to us?
01:58Yeah.
01:59For these people, it was normal to rape, harm, do adultery towards women.
02:03But for Prophet Muhammad peace upon him, this was wrong.
02:06He never attempted to act on these actions.
02:08He was Al-Amin.
02:09And he didn't even marry or had intercourse with any woman until the age of 25, with his
02:13wife Khatija.
02:14Which is odd, especially for the Arabs at that time, because hormones as all, I mean, as
02:19most men know, it is the top starting from puberty to 20s.
02:23Despite that, Muhammad peace upon him, controlled his desires till his marriage, even though
02:27he didn't have to.
02:28The reason he married Aisha was, this was a command from Allah.
02:32In this hadith, who again narrated by our mother Aisha, Prophet Muhammad peace upon him,
02:36telling her that he saw an angel twice in his dream, carrying Aisha before they got married.
02:40After seeing her, he says, if this is from Allah, then it must happen.
02:44Why?
02:45Right?
02:46Why Allah?
02:47There are two ways of answering this question.
02:48First being the wisdom.
02:50Aisha peace upon her, was very intelligent.
02:52She contributed the Islam greatly by narrating over 2,210 hadiths, descriptions about how
02:57Prophet Muhammad peace upon him was both inside and outside of his home, what his character
03:01like, his actions publicly and privately.
03:04Many of these insights, known only to his close family, were narrated by her, offering
03:08inviolable guidance to the Muslim Ummah.
03:10Second response is, why not?
03:12We have to be fair and square here.
03:14No atheist, deist, agnostic, Christian, has a right to judge this marriage with their
03:182020 plus world moral mentality.
03:21If someone expresses their own moral opinions on the matter of the subject, then it is subjective,
03:25it is not a fact, it is only how they feel.
03:28On the other hand, what is a fact is, people only recently started to talk about this marriage
03:33between Aisha and Prophet Muhammad peace upon him.
03:35And the reason is two.
03:36One, people's morals has been changed and became more liberal.
03:40Two, Islamophobes take advantage of this and attack the religion.
03:43This wasn't a topic that was hidden and only recently had been discovered.
03:46This was known by people, scholars, other empires, Muslims and non-Muslims for 1400 years.
03:52Only now it has become an issue, because society has changed.
03:56Yet, even now, I'll show you a couple statistics.
03:58Let's take the US as an example.
04:00Today, the majority state's age of consent is 16.
04:03However, in the 1800s, not 500 years ago, nor 1000 years, but only 2 centuries before,
04:09the age of consent in the US was 7 years old.
04:14Let's go to Europe.
04:15Some European countries currently have an age of consent as low as 14.
04:19However, in the 1800s, this was between 10 and 12.
04:22This was the norm only 2 centuries ago in our world.
04:25Now, imagine the norm before 14 centuries.
04:27In our history, we see even royalties getting married under the age of 10.
04:31As for the time of Prophet Muhammad peace upon him, his enemies, the polytheist, used to slander him,
04:35calling him a lawyer, a magician.
04:37They sought every opportunity to attack his image.
04:39Nevertheless, they never once mentioned his marriage with Aisha, because this was normal.
04:44It wasn't the one who initially proposed marriage.
04:46Rather, a woman named Khaula, known also for matchmaking in the past for others,
04:50was the one who recommended Aisha to Prophet Muhammad peace upon him.
04:53Because this was normal.
04:54Before Aisha got married to Prophet Muhammad peace upon him, she was already engaged with
04:58someone else.
04:59And again, this proves that this was normal.
05:01So they broke the engagement, then married to Prophet Muhammad peace upon him.
05:04Instead, one might raise an eyebrow and ask, why was it normal for people before 1800s
05:09to get married so young?
05:10Were they all PDF files?
05:11The answer would be, whoa, take a chill pill and let's nudge on the conclusions.
05:15We need to understand those were different times, cultures and people.
05:19Back then, 6 or 9 years old were maturing much faster due to the hardships in their life.
05:23In contrast, a 10 years old today spends all day playing games on their phone, with their
05:27biggest concern being their homework.
05:29They are not the same people, maybe the same body, but not the same mind.
05:32This is why Islam doesn't specify an age of consent, it is part of Allah's wisdom.
05:36If such a specific age were set, it would have not been appropriate for every society.
05:41Then the question pops up.
05:42Is it permissible in Islam for someone to marry what would be considered a young girl
05:46by today's standards?
05:48Short answer, no.
05:49Because of two reasons.
05:50First, the conditions have to meet for two people to get married in Islam.
05:53There has to be mutual consent.
05:55Supported from the hadith, a mason should not be given in marriage except after consoling
05:59her and a virgin should not be given in marriage except after her permission.
06:02And the second reason is, Muslims have to follow the laws of the land that they are living in.
06:05As long as it doesn't lead to haram.
06:07And the hadith of prophet Muhammad said, the Muslims will be held to their conditions.
06:11Accept the conditions that make the lawful unlawful or the unlawful lawful.
06:15Meaning the permissibility of marrying before the age of 10 today in Islam is extremely rare.
06:20Not only because it is illegal in most countries, but also the individuals today generally take longer to mature.
06:25Making it unlikely for them to consent to marriage at such a young age.
06:29And this was the last cherry on the cake we cooked.
06:31Alhamdulillah.
06:32This is the reality of our history.
06:34People change.
06:35Society change.
06:35Morals change.
06:36But what will stay is the guidance of Allah.
06:38It's up to you to either take it.
06:40Or leave it.
06:41It's up to you to either take it.
