00:00Could I get three quick updates from you guys?
00:02Oh, three updates.
00:03We can do three collectively.
00:05Yeah, let's do three collectively.
00:06Okay.
00:07All right.
00:08First one.
00:09Hey, Every Year After is coming out this week.
00:12It's coming out soon, which I guess by the time this happens, it will already be out.
00:16Every Year After is out.
00:17That's fun.
00:18Yeah.
00:18We are in New York right now.
00:22We're in New York having fun.
00:23Favorite place ever.
00:24Yeah.
00:24And then this is the first time Saini and I have seen each other in eight, nine months.
00:37Hi, guys.
00:37It's so nice to meet you.
00:38Hi.
00:39Great to meet you.
00:40I love the book.
00:41I love this show.
00:42I'm really excited to chat with you guys about it.
00:44And I would love to dive into some spoilers if you guys are cool with that.
00:47Please, spoiler it up.
00:48And Saini, I want to start with you because something I was thinking about the whole time
00:51I was watching the show was where was the banana boat?
00:54And I was shocked when it showed up.
00:55I was curious why that was an important change to make and why it was important to introduce
01:00it when it was introduced.
01:03I don't know if I'd be able to speak on why that was a change for then.
01:06I think that would probably be something Amy would answer better than me.
01:11But I think the significance of the banana boat was like teased in moments.
01:18I mean, there's that beautiful scene where they're kind of driving it and then it breaks
01:23down, which was really fun to film.
01:26And we were all kind of in this boat, like trying to stay afloat, like not be seasick.
01:33But yeah, I think it's like a teasing for, you know, the subsequent books and moments in
01:40the series.
01:41And Matt, seeing Sam's reaction to what Percy and Charlie did, like broke my heart and it
01:48because it's not something we get to see in the book.
01:50And I was curious, do you think he like really believes it when he tells Charlie, like, we're
01:54done, you're dead to me and all that kind of stuff?
01:56Well, 110%, I think he believes it.
01:59I think he is so beyond hurt by Charlie, more than any of the hurt that has ever happened
02:06with Percy, at least in that given moment.
02:08I think that, and he says so in the show at one point, like Charlie is his only family
02:13he has left.
02:14And to be so deeply betrayed by that sole family member that you have left now that both
02:20of his parents are gone, he doesn't have other siblings, like this is his only like blood
02:25relative.
02:25And so having that level of betrayal and hurt and, you know, that's something that I love
02:32that we get to see in the show.
02:33I love that we get to see that moment happen.
02:35And I love that Sam doesn't know in our show.
02:38I know that that's a slight difference from, you know, from the book.
02:41But I think Sam not knowing just creates an environment for us to see his spiral rather
02:48than in the book, you know, we hear about it and it's talked about, but we don't get
02:52to actually actively see it happen.
02:54And I think for me, it was really fun to get to play that, but also seeing the changes
02:58in the relationships with Percy and with Charlie and watching Sam completely like close Charlie
03:06off is heartbreaking.
03:08And for me, it's like, I have a brother that I'm very close to.
03:12And so like trying to tap into that, like the thought of closing out my brother like that
03:16is heartbreaking.
03:17And I think it's just, it's such a great addition to the show.
03:20Agreed.
03:21Yeah, I loved it.
03:22And Sadie, another addition I loved in the show was Sue giving Percy the tavern instead
03:28of the boys the tavern.
03:29Carly told me that that was the change that shocked her the most.
03:32And I was curious why, what adding that conflict in adds to the show in this story as a whole.
03:39I mean, I think it adds another layer on top of the obstacles between Percy and Sam and
03:45Percy and Charlie and also between those brothers.
03:49I mean, it's like another point of difficulty between everyone.
03:53And I also think it's like, it's a big thing of responsibility.
03:58I mean, running and owning a tavern.
04:01And I think Percy's also really struggling with having responsibility over her life and
04:10ownership over what she wants to do.
04:13So yeah, definitely more obstacles.
04:16Matt, I love that Sam's first words to Percy in the book and in the show where you came
04:20home.
04:21I was curious why those are his first words and what the meaning behind that is.
04:25Yeah, I think something that's so beautiful is Sam, even though he feels like he left and
04:31he left this life behind, this thing that it's been 10 years.
04:35I think to a degree, he feels like he's moved on, but to the depths of his heart, he has
04:40never forgotten about Percy and Percy has never gone away.
04:42I think, you know, Percy was his first love, his first real love.
04:45And that will always hold a special place in his heart and inherently in people's hearts
04:50in general, I think.
04:51So seeing her come back to this town, it's one of those things that, you know, not only
04:57is he back in this town that is bubbling up all these emotions of when he was a teenager,
05:01that he's trying to kind of like shove away while he's trying to figure out his relationship
05:06with Taylor, Percy coming back, it almost boils over to an extent that he can't fight
05:13it.
05:13And he is happy to see her.
05:15Like he still loves her.
05:16He still cares about her.
05:18He might be in a relationship with somebody else, but he is happy to see her.
05:22And in his head, I think it's an, oh, crap moment.
05:27Like I, I have to figure out now, like these feelings that I've shoved down so far are now
05:33in front of my face and I can't fight it.
05:36So I think, yeah, Percy being there, I mean, he says it's, it's, it's bad for, it's bad for
05:41him.
05:42And I think it's just because it complicates things so much because he does have so much
05:46care for her still.
05:46I just don't know what it's going to be like to see her again.
05:51Sam.
05:51You came home.
