00:41the hotel area during the overnight hours. Videos posted online appear to show explosions, debris,
00:48and what may be air defense activity over Erbil. Some reports say a drone was intercepted or crashed
00:56near the hotel, while others claim the site itself was hit. The reported attack is particularly
01:02significant because Erbil remains one of the most important locations for the remaining U.S. presence
01:09in Iraq. U.S. military personnel and contractors linked to counter-ISIS operations remain in the
01:17region, while American forces are preparing for the next phase of their military presence in Iraq.
01:24The incident is also being described online as the first military operation of Iran's newly
01:30structured Islamic Revolutionary Corps, or IRGC. Iran has recently undergone major military command
01:38changes following heavy losses among senior commanders during the wider conflict. But whether
01:45this specific operation was officially ordered or carried out by the restructured IRGC remains
01:52a major question. The reported strike comes against the backdrop of months of attacks around Iraqi
01:59Kurdistan. Iran and Iran-aligned groups have repeatedly targeted locations in and around Erbil, including
02:07sites connected to U.S. forces and Iranian Kurdish opposition groups. Hotels frequented by foreigners have also
02:15previously been identified as potential targets. The Arjan by Rotana area itself has previously
02:22been caught up in attacks and interception attempts. Earlier incidents saw drone debris fall near the
02:28hotel and nearby buildings after air defenses reportedly intercepted incoming threats. That makes the latest
02:36reports particularly sensitive for U.S. personnel in the city. If confirmed, a direct Iranian strike
02:43affecting a location associated with U.S. personnel in Erbil could represent a significant escalation. It could
02:51also put additional pressure on U.S. forces and their partners as Washington prepares for the next phase of its
02:58military presence in Iraq. But there is an important caveat. As of now, the reported strike, the exact
