00:01Just give a minute for our speakers.
00:03Hi, Mr. Mayor, good morning.
00:05Good morning, how are you?
00:05Good.
00:06I want to ask you about something AOC said over the weekend that you probably heard in an interview where
00:12she quoted Council Member Chi Osei, who once said on Twitter, or X, woke one was crazy.
00:21And she was talking about it in response to questions about whether the left has some sort of, during that
00:33time, how she responds to some unpopular or controversial proposals on the left, like defund the police.
00:43And I wonder what you'd make of that.
00:45What do you make of that statement?
00:47Because you yourself have walked back, defund the police.
00:51Do you think woke one was crazy?
00:56Look, I think that each person has a responsibility to tell New Yorkers, to tell Americans when they're running for
01:07office what they believe.
01:08And sometimes what you believe can change.
01:12It can develop.
01:12It can grow.
01:13And I know that there are some for whom they still believe in that.
01:16I've made very clear that I do not believe in defunding the police, that I will not be defunding the
01:22police.
01:22And that, to me, delivering critical public safety also looks like working with our police department alongside many other partners.
01:30And we've seen over the first seven months of this administration what that can look like when we're talking about
01:36the fewest murders on record in New York City, the fewest shooting incidents on record in New York City.
01:41And that, to me, is how we measure a lot of our public safety.
01:46Upstate.
