00:00The ups and downs of decision making on the Harper case have left officers across the country upset and saddened
00:05about it.
00:05It's good the Prime Minister has clearly recognised that something needs to change and he's asked for some plans to
00:12be put in place and that's to be welcomed.
00:14I also think there's a wider question about the level support officers feel for the difficult jobs they do today.
00:21I've been really struck by talking to colleagues here who were policing the streets of London in 60s, 70s and
00:2580s
00:27and they look at what officers are facing on the streets today and they're saying that looks a lot harder
00:31than I faced then.
00:33The stick, the grief, the lack of support they get, they comment on it looking different
00:37and if we want our fantastic people, men and women across the country to have the confidence on the streets
00:42we need that sense of support and sorting out the Harper case is a good step on that journey.
