00:00Another headline which is going to make for uncomfortable reading is that the king has continued to pay rent on
00:06behalf of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie for them to stay living within royal palaces.
00:13And I think that's something that might stick in a few people's crawls, to be honest.
00:19This is, though, Princess Eugenie's main residence, but it's not Princess Beatrice's main residence, is it?
00:26No, that's right.
00:27Right. So just to clarify for anyone who's not familiar, Eugenie lives at Ivy Cottage in the grounds of Kensington
00:33Palace and Princess Beatrice retains an apartment at St. James's Palace.
00:38The sisters used to live there together. And of course, they're both now married with children.
00:43They divide their time between these homes and others.
00:47We know Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have a place in Portugal and Beatrice and her husband, Edo, live out in
00:54the countryside.
00:55But what is interesting about this is that they are the only non-working royals bar the Prince and Princess
01:02Michael of Kent.
01:03We'll get on to them in just a moment.
01:05Who are living within crown estates or royal household properties at the expense of the king.
01:12Now, you can say the king is covering this cost from his private income as the owner of the, sorry,
01:20the king is covering this at his own cost from his income that comes from the Duchy of Lancaster.
01:26But it's also something that people are questioning because the royal palaces, as we know, are maintained with public funds.
01:34So the sovereign grant goes into the upkeep of Buckingham Palace, for example, and other royal properties.
01:40And so it is something that's going to raise a few eyebrows.
01:43Now, there's no suggestion of any wrongdoing, of course, by the princesses, but it all adds into this, you know,
01:50idea that deals have been done, agreements have been made behind the scenes that for most people are way out
01:58of reach.
