00:02Good afternoon, I forgot what time was, we've been chatting too long, and a very happy year to everyone.
00:08Cathy and I have had a very nice tour around the rehabilitation unit upstairs,
00:12you can see some of the supporting structures and things put together by their NHS and charities together
00:20to kind of maintain staff, welfare, patient support and all things like that.
00:24And it always, both of us had different experiences with hospital,
00:29me working with the Air Ambulance Cath and their recent health journey,
00:33and coming here today and reminding ourselves just how important all the teams are,
00:39all the staff, the patients, the interactions, it's so heartwarming and it's so important
00:45that we kind of acknowledge and appreciate all that goes on in the NHS
00:49and that very strong bond between patients and carers.
00:56And I think Ellie's going to talk to you a bit about today about the power of philanthropy in the
01:00NHS,
01:01which is something that I think has probably been underlooked, undervalued for many years,
01:05but could have such huge potential to move what is a nascent kind of idea to being something a lot
01:15more powerful,
01:15moving from millions to billions, if you like, in terms of how we can have our philanthropy in the NHS.
01:21And I think it needs the support, it needs that kind of energy and that renewed momentum.
01:27We all applauded all the NHS for many weeks on end through Covid.
01:32This kind of feels like a bit of a moment to remind ourselves why we did all that applauding,
01:37and that actually the next stage, the next energy level in the NHS could really come from the likes of
01:43all of you around this room
01:44and those you know and those you work with.
01:46So, as joint patrons of NHS Charities Together, we are so fortunate and so proud of Ellie, the team,
01:56and everything that's being done around the Charities Together.
02:00And the inequities is, I think, a subscriber between some charities having only £100,000 of work
02:05and whereas others are nearly millions and millions.
02:08It shouldn't really be a case of playing war in the countries to what kind of charitable endeavours there are.
02:14And, as of anything, if there's an exciting opportunity, we should really embrace it.
02:18I think here is an incredibly exciting opportunity.
02:21So, I'm sure you'll hear more from Ellie about how to do that,
02:24but we just wanted to come in and quickly say how supportive we are of it.
02:27And I'm grateful we are for you being here to have that conversation again.
