00:01Princess Beatrice is coming to join us this afternoon to read to some of our
00:05reception year one children. She's going to be reading one of the nominations
00:10from the Oscars Book Prize. Picture books are just important, they can be shared
00:14with anyone of any age. So much can be taught from a picture book. This year's
00:18winner for Oscars Book Prize was When Dinosaurs Walk the Earth by Sean Taylor,
00:22illustrated by Zara Hicks. We're really lucky to have a long-term
00:25partnership with the school where we're coming to read the shortlisted books for
00:28another three weeks and then long-term we plan to come back to the school once a
00:32month with different volunteers from the site to read to the kids. We are back in
00:35the days where dinosaurs walk the earth. I got involved in Oscars Book Prize a very
00:41long time ago. This year's winner of the prize particularly keeps the reader
00:45guessing, you never know really what's going to happen and it brings humour and
00:49a sense of adventure, especially when dealing with dinosaurs. But it's not as
00:53large as she thought. Badasaurus can see her. He bites the large
00:57prehistoric tree by mistake. I grew up with an incredible mum as a children's
01:02author, so stories really created that sense of imagination. I really appreciate
01:08what stories can do, that special quality time, that moment at the end of the day,
01:12but also how important it is for reading in general for young people and making
01:16sure that we can do everything we can to really make sure that these books really
01:19get into the hands of those that need it most.
