00:00Oceana in the UK, is it protecting marine areas or is it putting things, habitats back into the
00:05ocean? What kind of things are we talking about? Oceana is working on three main areas in the UK.
00:11One is on habitats, on our marine protected areas. We want to make sure they're properly protected
00:16from big industrial impacts, from things that are causing the destruction of marine life and
00:22marine ecosystems. We're working on sustainable fisheries. We think that we should always follow
00:26the science in this country on only fishing at sustainable levels. And lastly, we're working
00:32on oil and gas. It's a dual threat, the climate threat, but then also the threat to marine protected
00:38areas, the sorts of impacts we all have sort of understood over time of oil spills. What do you
00:44tell people to sort of inspire them to get involved? You know, first and foremost, wherever we are,
00:50whether we're in central London or any of our big cities or whether we're by the coast like I am
00:55in Cornwall today, we all rely on a thriving, healthy sea for the oxygen we breathe, for the
00:59temperature regulation that the ocean does for us all on this planet. So we try and inspire with
01:05how people can be involved in various ways. You know, they might want to take part in a beach clean
01:10and pick up plastic and take direct action like that. Or they might want to write to their local MP
01:17and make their voice heard for what they want to see for the ocean. So people can take activism
01:22and protect the ocean in many different ways.
