00:00Hello, my name's Mari, also known as the Roadblock Coach, and I'm a certified and trauma-informed
00:06life coach. I am delighted to be here today to share with you three tips on how to make
00:12good decisions fast. Do you struggle to make decisions, my love? Do you find yourself umming
00:17and eyeing? If so, you're in for a treat. These are very simple tips, but potentially
00:23life-changing, and they're just for you. Okay, tip number one is to book a decision-making
00:28slot. I know it sounds a bit odd, stay with me, I'll explain. So I have some clients who come
00:34to me
00:34not just with trouble making the big high-ticket decisions, but sometimes more trouble making the
00:40kind of day-to-day ones, the more mundane ones, like, I don't know, it pops into your head in
00:47the
00:47morning, like, oh, should I go to the gym tomorrow night? Hmm, well, if I go, I don't want to
00:51wash my
00:51hair. And I probably should, because then the night after, I've got that barbecue, and so on and so
00:57forth. And what tends to happen is your thought process gets interrupted, and then it pops into
01:02your head again a bit later, and then you get interrupted again, and so it just continues.
01:07Now, that's quite stressful, but also it's such a waste of your time, right? And the problem there
01:13is that you literally don't have a pocket of time that is devoted to just making that decision.
01:19So all we do is find that pocket. So you literally open up your phone, you look at your calendar,
01:25and you look to identify that slot where you can just sit quietly and think through the logistics,
01:31because sometimes that's literally all it's about, is just you having enough space and time to think
01:37through the entire piece. And once you've found that slot, you put it in your phone, and you set
01:42it as an alert. And that's really important, because that means you can forget about it as soon as it's
01:49in there, and you've set the alarm, done. Your job is done, my friend, you can let that go. No
01:55more
01:55wasted time, no more of that popping into your head until the alarm goes off, and that will be at
02:00the
02:00right time for you. Now leading on from that is tip number two. Tip number two is all about gathering
02:07the
02:07right tools and information. Because here's something else that really holds us back from making decisions
02:12quickly and positively. Sometimes it's because there's so many other elements involved, and we
02:19haven't gathered them all. So for example, I don't know, someone texts you on a Monday morning, right?
02:24Do you want to come to bottomless brunch on Sunday with the girls? Now you might get an initial sense
02:28of, oh, that would be nice. But something holds you back saying yes. And so before you know it, it's
02:34Saturday afternoon, you're still not confirmed, right? But what you have done is thought about that
02:40constantly in little pockets and irritated yourself with it. Well, sometimes the reason for that is
02:46because actually, there's a whole load of stuff you need to know before you can say yes or no. Things
02:51like, well, I don't know what the train times are on a Sunday, or what have I got on a
02:56Monday, and can I
02:57cope with a bottomless brunch hangover? Or is my partner, you know, free? Is he on board with taking care
03:04of
03:04the kids, etc? So ask yourself, what tools or information do I need in order to make this
03:11decision? Write it down, start to gather that, then you can make the decision much quicker.
03:18Okay, and tip number three is more about those high stakes decisions. What I find, and the tip here is
03:25about gathering experience or exposure in the environment. So let me explain. What I find with
03:31clients is when they're making really big life changing decisions, such as radically changing
03:37career, or sometimes leaving friendships, or relationships, or becoming parents, like whatever
03:43it is, big, big decisions. Sometimes we're making it from such a removed vantage point from that truth,
03:51that we have no sense, we have no intuitive sense of whether it's actually right for us or not.
03:57So when we're making big decisions, we're often looking for a yes or no feeling, I call it, right?
04:03Essentially, that kind of peaceful, intuitive sense that like, ah, this is the right decision for me.
04:10But for your intuition to speak loud enough for you to hear it, you have to have given it enough
04:16information. So rather than trying to make a decision on, let's say you have a notion that you want to
04:21be
04:21a film director, and right now you work as an accountant, rather than trying to make that decision
04:28from this place of your reality being that you're an accountant, and you have no experience of film
04:34directing whatsoever, you need to step closer to it, so your intuition can get a sense. That could be
04:41something as simple as, who's in my network that has ever written a script, or has ever had anything
04:48to do with, you know, film directing in any capacity, can I have a chat with them? Or it might
04:53be, is there
04:54a short free course that I can do within this, just to give me a flavour of whether it's actually
05:00something I'd really enjoy? So you're, all you're looking is for little steps forward into that
05:05environment. Same with moving house, you know, sometimes it's about going to that particular location,
05:12looking around the shops, eating in the cafes, getting a sense of, does this feel right or not?
05:17So those are my three tips for decision making. I hope you enjoy. Please come and tell me how you
05:23found them, and I look forward to speaking to you soon.
