00:00Hello and welcome back to Under the Palms. In this week's episode we're discussing episode 6
00:04where the murder of Jake Dalton leaves the team scratching their heads. After Neville comes across
00:09an expat criminologist who seems to have a solid alibi, it looks as if there's no way he can be
00:13the suspect. But as Neville works harder and grows more frustrated, the cracks in Cartwright's story
00:19begin to show, leading to an explosive cliffhanger. So Emmy, what did you think of the episode
00:24firstly and what were your theories while watching it? Episode 6, okay so from here, from here on out,
00:31if you haven't watched episode 6, come back to us when you have because oh my god I can't not
00:35talk
00:35about the finale, it was like the cliffhanger was so crazy. Honestly like was it the best episode of
00:41Death in Paradise ever? Yeah. Like because I just, there were so many things I loved about it, like I
00:46loved the guy that they were trying to track down Cartwright, the you know the guy they were trying
00:50to pin the murder on and you know they were right but they couldn't actually catch him because he was
00:55just doing it for the thrill of it and for the thrill of not getting caught and that for the
01:00thrill
01:00of messing with the police. And I was like oh my god it's like Batman the Dark Knight, it's like
01:04yeah
01:04so just and like Neville Parker is the Batman in this scenario where it's just like and you know this
01:12guy is the Joker causing chaos just because he wants to and I was like this is incredible.
01:19Yeah and I think you can really tell because he's getting like Neville was getting more and more
01:24frustrated like the tension in the episode was really really high and I think like you say it
01:29links back to the story with Cartwright like Neville was so convinced there was more to this story
01:34and he's like no I'm going at this with a vengeance because this guy like more frustrated
01:41at a perpetrator than he has ever been before because it's like no this guy cannot get away
01:45with it because there was no motive for him to do that he literally just wanted to do it for
01:50the sake of it and I think I don't know I'm I'm with you it just made it far more
01:53dramatic didn't
01:54it? I was gonna ask though what did you think of the episode? I thought it was really good I
01:58thought
01:58it was really good I really enjoyed um yeah as I say the the tension I thought that made it
02:04so much
02:04more gripping as an episode and I I agree with you I think this this was for me definitely the
02:08best
02:09episode of the series so far I mean that cliffhanger alone I was I honestly I mean there was a
02:16bit of
02:16me when they showed um the the yellow tape at the end of the episode before they revealed that it
02:21was
02:21Cartwright on the floor I was like oh my god is it Neville is it Neville is he gonna be
02:25dead I really
02:27really panicked I can't lie. Ralph Little is now the longest service is serving detective so I mean you
02:33know um Otto Hanlon and Chris Marshall both did three seasons a piece as well but then Ralph's
02:39also done the Christmas specials which are new over the last couple of years so he has technically
02:43been doing it for the longest amount of time and it is a show that like thrives on change like
02:49you know
02:49the fact that it's all they've always had a new detective every few seasons works for it so I like
02:55I am wondering whether we're getting to the end of Neville's time on the on the island of
03:02and like how and and like if that is the case and if Ralph Little is leaving which you know
03:08he's
03:08always very elusive about um and if he is leaving it's like there is no pattern for how it's done
03:14so the fact that you know season one Ben Miller was murdered yeah detective two Chris Marshall went
03:21to be with his his love his love his lady love season three um Ardell so Jack Mooney um went
03:31home to
03:31London and it was like to be with his daughter and to like you know to stop running and to
03:35face life
03:36and you know following like the death of his wife detective for Neville like it really could be
03:42anything so I mean I completely don't blame you for seeing that police tape and being like
03:46oh my god have they killed him off because that would have just been like mad but it would like
03:51they they've done it they did it with Ben Miller they they could do it again exactly and I think
03:55I
03:55I I can't help but think that they did that deliberately because at the end of the day it
04:01was it was Cartwright and Neville in a room so you you're gonna think well Cartwright's murderer we know
04:07that and they clearly you know have a vengeance for each other so Cartwright's murdered him oh my god
04:12but then obviously it was very quickly resolved that he wasn't dead but I think they did that
04:17deliberately to make people think oh my gosh like the prospect of not of Neville not being there
04:22I don't know I think I think they're trying to tease it oh I think you're so right and like
04:27yeah and it's so true isn't it because when you see it it's like well Neville's like a cinnamon roll
04:30so Neville hasn't murdered exactly like who's dead yeah um so yeah no totally but I mean
04:37but maybe once again spoilers for the last couple of minutes of the show maybe the way that Neville's
04:43gonna exit is by going down as a murderer because we've never seen Neville that angry he was at the
04:50house and then at the end the commissioner arrests him let's let's let's theorize like do you think he
04:57did it or or what it would be a very big twist in the death in paradise story wouldn't it
05:03if the
05:04detective ended up being a murder but yeah I mean throughout the episode like we said before he was
05:09so angry like more angry than he's ever been and so they're obviously trying to make this story for
05:17the viewers that is it is it possible that he just snapped in that moment and he thought you're not
05:22going to get away with this and then he just yeah saw saw the red mist and then just did
05:27it I mean I
05:28don't I don't know I don't is is he the murderer I it would it would actually be a very
05:33good tv twist but
05:34part of me thinks that they are going to resolve it and it is going to end up like like
05:40there is going
05:41to be an answer to what actually happened and it isn't going to be Neville but you never know
05:46let's talk about it like who who could it have been who's your number one suspect well the obvious
05:52one I think when you get to the end of that episode the obvious one is Rose because yeah
05:58obviously she's the wife of Jake Dalton who was murdered at the very beginning of that episode
06:04at the same time you think how would how would they have done that because it was only them two
06:09in the room wasn't it or yeah so that there has to be a way but another thing that might
06:14happen is
06:14that Neville will go to prison obviously he's been arrested but he will eventually go to prison
06:18even though he is innocent because there's just no concrete way of proving that it wasn't actually him
06:25which would be really sad can you imagine if his exit is him just being in prison for a crime
06:33he
06:33didn't commit like that would be I feel like I feel like viewers would like storm the BBC
06:37there would be petitions surely he would be flying to Guadalupe to break it out do you want it do
06:43you
06:43want to hear who I think did it Francesca go on tell me um so I think so my main
06:51two I have two
06:52suspects so I think Rosie's a really good one I think the fact that yeah she's his cleaner as well
06:56she can she can deal with the crime scene she can leave no fingerprints whatever but the fact that
07:01Neville was there at the how the the place yeah means that maybe it's someone who's got something
07:07out for Neville and like that's why they killed yeah like that's why they killed Cara and wanted
07:14to frame him and I'm thinking like Robert Webb's character Justin a few episodes ago was like
07:20watching Neville and say goodbye to Sophie and we spoke about that didn't we yeah we were like
07:25he's coming back like this is like a vengeance space right here so I'm like maybe it was like
07:31Justin like finished the yeah I snuck in and like made it look like it was um Neville but then
07:37you've
07:37also got his friend Andy who's arrived at the island very ominously didn't tell him he was there
07:43had that weird conversation with him where he was like oh we've always been mates haven't we Nev
07:47and it's like what's going on with what's going on with Andy so it's like could it have been
07:52could it have been his friend for and like you know his friend I think worked with Cartwright as
07:56well so that's another thing so that's like not even necessarily framing Neville is like maybe his
08:01friend's got a vendetta against Cartwright as well yeah yeah so I'm like maybe it's maybe it's one of
08:07those two I feel like they're prime suspects in my in my mind thanks so much for watching this week's
08:12Under the Palms we would love to hear your theories and comments about what you think's going to
08:17happen how do you think Neville's going to get himself out of this situation let us know leave
