00:06She claims that her mother has made her life miserable for years
00:10and she's afraid her behavior will ruin her special day.
00:13So how should you deal with a toxic person?
00:15I'm going to start with you, Alyssa.
00:17What would you do?
00:18Well, so I recently got married back in November
00:20and this is such a tough topic.
00:23So keep in mind two things.
00:24COVID has made people shrink their friend groups, their family groups.
00:28People aren't being around each other if they're not open to getting vaccinated.
00:32Add to that political polarization.
00:34So in my situation, personally, I had to deal with two people very close to me,
00:38my father and stepmother, who didn't want to attend my wedding.
00:42Political differences after I spoke out against President Trump.
00:44Oh, boy.
00:45And to me, you know, the answer was simple.
00:47Like, I love them.
00:48They were welcome to be there on my end.
00:50But if they didn't want to be there, why would I interrupt my special day
00:54by trying to have them there?
00:55And I'm not alone.
00:56I've got a number of girlfriends who face similar things.
00:59Political polarization, just harming families, tearing people apart.
01:03So your father's in the cult?
01:05Unfortunately.
01:06I mean, listen, the MAGA strength runs really far and deep.
01:10But that's a day where, honestly, that's a day where if you love the family member getting married,
01:15you've got to put this stuff away.
01:17Listen, Al's niece is, was a spokesperson for the campaign.
01:22He adores her, she got married, and we went because we love her.
01:27And so for, you know, for that day, it's all about the bride and groom.
01:32That's really, unfortunately for you.
01:34But did you miss him?
01:35You know, listen, I enjoyed my wedding.
01:37I got to be with my new family.
